JUSTCALLMEANGUS – Hung out after the start was effected, a warning was issued. Stewards requested that the gelding undergo a veterinary examination after the event as JUSTCALLMEANGUS performed below expectation, however there were no abnormalities reported. Stable representative P. Bain could offer no explanation for the performance, as the geldings trackwork had been of a high standard, however they believed JUSTCALLMEANGUS was in need of a freshen up and it was their intention to give the gelding a reduced workload. Stewards noted their explanation, however, a warning was placed on the performance of JUSTCALLMEANGUS.

RACE 3 – SAHRC LIFE MEMBERS PACE – 1800MS

OVERPOWERING – After a request by the connections, Stewards gave permission for the owner’s colours to be worn in this event. Raced fierce in the score up, then showed gate speed and lead the event. Driver G. Pullicino was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(ww) for allowing her horse to shift up the track over the final 200 metres.

O’Neill could offer no explanation for the lower-than-expected performance but advised he would monitor the mare’s recovery. A warning was issued in respect to the performance of REDRIVERDEBBA.

CHAMPAGNE PRINCE NZ – Led the event and withstood a challenge for the lead from HAMMERS LAW near the 1900 metres. Shifted out under pressure right on the finish line causing interference to HAMMERS LAW, a warning was issued.

HAMMERS LAW – Unsuccessfully challenged for the lead near the 1900 metres, consequently raced outside the leader from that point on. Inconvenienced on the finish line when CHAMPAGNE PRINCE NZ shifted out suddenly on his inside.

SKYLINE NZ – Broke gait free of interference near the 750 metres, due to its recent racing history, the gelding was placed on its last chance to race truly.

RACE 5 – PACEWAY RESTAURANT OPEN SATURDAY NIGHTS PACE – 1800MS

RACE 6 – HOPKINS SADDLERY TROTTERS HANDICAP – 2230SS

Stewards elected to abandon this event due to drivers A. Chapman (KABAYO KING) and G. Pullicino (GHENT) being dislodged from their sulkies, the interference occurred when KABAYO KING galloped at the start and shifted down the track causing interference to the runners off the 30 metre handicap. With the loss of its driver, KABAYO KING had been in a full stretch gallop and proved difficult to catch by the clerks, eventually the horse caught the main body of the field, working its way through the field and causing considerable disruption as a consequence. In the best interest of the safety of all concerned, Stewards elected to abandon the event and deemed it a “No Race” and as a result all bets were refunded.

THE SNEAKY FOX – Had a tendency to over-race when in a trailing position.

KAHINA – Had difficulty finding a clear run between the 400 metres and the 100 metres, then broke gait when racing in restricted room, just prior to the finishing line, under the circumstances Stewards elected to take no action against KAHINA.
