Having fully considered its performances since returning from a spell and previous discussions with the Driver, Stewards advised Mr Forby that in future in similar company they would expect the horse to be driven more conservatively until its form warranted more aggressive tactics.  He was further advised that in future his tactics should conform with the Rules and INDYS APPROVAL would be required to be competitive.  Mr Forby indicated the stable would have blood tests taken and will notify stewards of any abnormalities.

ADDITIONAL REPORT –

GLOBE DERBY PARK – Monday 9 May 2022 - Race 6 - NORTH EAST PACE – BETTOR YOU BET

An Inquiry adjourned from Monday 9 May 2022 was finalised prior to the first race today.

Stewards questioned Driver N Brown and Mr T Brown representing Trainer Ms P Brown regarding their tactics and expectations for BETTER YOU BET in this race.  N Brown stated that BETTER YOU BET had not trialled this preparation.  He said based on a previous preparation and its trackwork at home the stable had no real expectation prior to the race and had hoped it would benefit from having a positive experience at the races. He stated that he had allowed BETTER YOU BET to commence of its own accord as the horse had not shown real gate speed in three trials last preparation.  He said settling four pegs he felt BETTER YOU BET had travelled comfortably although he had to keep its mind on the job.  N Brown added that due to the composition of the field from the 400 metres he felt had not been able to improve and after entering the final straight had difficulty finding a run although clear running became available later in the race.  Mr T Brown confirmed the stable’s pre-race considerations and indicated that he would expect N Brown to attempt to deploy similar tactics this afternoon to ensure that the horse finished in the best position possible.  Mr Brown added that at this time the stable remained unconvinced regarding BETTOR YOU BET’s future and his thoughts were that it remained in work solely due to being a son of BETTORS DELIGHT in the hope it would improve with race experience.

Having considered the explanation of N Brown and Mr Brown Snr, Stewards advised both parties that having regard to the race being the horse’s first race start, that BETTOR YOU BET hadn’t trialled prior to racing having qualified at Gawler mid-2021, and the relative inexperience of Driver N Brown (250 races/8 wins) he was being afforded the benefit of doubt having regard to all circumstances as to whether his drive was compliant with the Rules.  Both parties were advised that in future Stewards would expect all runners be fully tested where the circumstances allowed.

GENERAL

Several drivers were advised that they would need to further modify their whip use to ensure that they fully comply with the current whip rules.

This Report and the Stewards Comments for the race meeting may be amended at the discretion of the Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) Stewards as races are routinely reviewed.
