REGAL ASSASSIN NZ -Driver Jason Kittel was queried regarding the tactics adopted in the event with particular emphasis as to why he waited until near the 450m to move 3 wide off of the back of ENROLLED that had been struggling to keep with the front runners in the final lap. J. Kittel explained that prior to the event his instructions were to drive the horse conservatively and keep the horse for one late run. The horse had only been successful against that grade of horse when able to lead and the connections thought the 20m handicap was too great for it to be driven forward early. With the benefit of hindsight, he believed he may have erred by not shifting 3 wide slightly earlier however thought his horses run had basically ended over the concluding 50m. Stable representative G Pullicino verified the instructions and felt the horse was harshly handicapped off the 20m. Stewards advised J. Kittel they would in future expect him to assess the situation better as a race unfolds so as to ensure action is not taken against his licence. In issuing the advice stewards believed REGAL ASSASSIN NZ had finished in its best possible position.

GENERAL

Several drivers were advised they would need to further modify their whip use to ensure they fully conform with the current whip rules.
