Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – SAVE THE DATE CUP DAY SUNDAY 15TH JAN 2023 PACE (2160 MS)
Loseashoe was a late scratching at 10.20am on veterinary advice.
Bella Abby had a tendency to pull hard and was held up for clear racing room between the 400 and 300 metres.
RACE 2 – GRAND CENTRAL HOTEL HAMILTON PACE (1660 MS)
Mi Thesari was out of position at the start with driver Luke Dunne being cautioned for failing to have that runner in position.
After racing outside the leader in the early stages and then obtaining cover in the middle stages Cricket commenced to tire from the 800 metres to finish in last place beaten 104m. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards queried trained/ driver Scott Rains who explained that the mare had performed satisfactorily when driven conservatively at her first start and he would look to drive the mare with cover and confine her to racing over shorter distances. Given the beaten margin the mare was stood down from racing pending the completion of a satisfactory trial.
The all clear was held up in order to allow stewards to view the films of the home turn. Where it was established that Mi Thesari hung in and contacted a serious of marker pegs towards the 300 metre mark, before being corrected by driver Luke Dunne. The gelding then shifted in and contacted the final marker peg before the sprint lane. Stewards were satisfied that no advantage had been gained and the all clear was given. Mr Dunne was cautioned for allowing his drive to shift in and contact the final marker peg prior to the sprint lane
RACE 3 – TAYLOR MOTORS HAMILTON PACE (1660 MS)
The all clear was delayed to allow the Stewards to view the films of the concluding stages in regards to third place getter Major Milestone racing inside the final marker peg prior to the sprint lane. Based on the available replays and after hearing evidence from driver Tayla French stewards were satisfied that Major Milestone had been directed down the track by its driver resulting in it racing with its nearside sulky wheel inside the final marker peg, though being mindful of the minimal forward progress of Major Milestone and the margin of 5metres between third placed Major Milestone and fourth placed Royal Appointment the all clear was given. Ms French was fined $200 pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(c ).
Driver David Murphy(It’s a Fugazi) was cautioned for his use of the whip outsides the confines on one occasion early in the home straight.
RACE 4 –FINCHETTS PLUMBING 3YO PACE (2160 MS)
The start of this race was briefly delayed due to duplicate colours being worn with a colour change required on Feels Lika Boss (Alex Ashwood).
Kickatinalong NZ underwent pre-race and post-race veterinary examinations due to not having started in a race since August 2020. No abnormalities were detected.
All Good after leading the race then jumped and broke near the 200 metres and was placed on his last chance to race truly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Driver Alex Ashwood (Feels Lika Boss) was fined $100 pursuant to Rule 156 (7) for using his whip outside the confines of the sulky shortly before entering in the home straight. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful that Mr Ashwood had been cautioned under the same rule within the preceding 28 days.
RACE 5 -BECOME A HHRC MEMBER TROT (2160 MS)
Trainers Terry Gange(Beau Bronski) and David Murphy were both cautioned for late driver notifications with Alex Ashwood failing to appear in the racebook as the driver of Beau Bronski and Brent Murphy not listed as the driver of Atego Shades.
Sonnys Amazing hung in during the score up, was out of position at the start and a warning was placed on its starting manners.

Four Star Saint was fractious and broke in the early part of the score up and will continue out of the mobile draw.
Sonnys Amazing hung in and contacted marker pegs racing off the back straight, was then tightened contacting peg towards the 250m mark, as Beau Bronski which was racing to its outside then hung in.
Digyourheelsin held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn.
Beau Bronski was held up and was unable to obtain clear running.
RACE 6 – MATTHEWS PETROLEUM PACE (2160 MS)
Iambecauseofyou pulled hard in the score up, was out of position and a warning was placed on the gelding’s starting manners. The gelding raced three wide in the early stages and was unable to be restrained by driver Daryl Douglas, and then raced fiercely when progressing forward to the lead.
David Murphy (Final Peace) was cautioned for failing to have his runner adequately in position at the start.
Rocks Arnt Pets hung in throughout the score up and was significantly out of position at the start. In light of the geldings starting manners tonight and recent starting record the gelding was placed out of the mobile barrier draw.
Driver Michelle Phillips (Rocking Bugatti) was fined in the sum of $100 pursuant to Rule162(1)(g) for allowing her drive to start from wider then its allotted second row position.
RACE 7 – ALEXANDRA HOUSE SPORTS CLUB PACE (1660 MS)
Hesastar broke on two occasions at the score up, was out of position and was placed out of the mobile barrier draw. The gelding then trailed the field for the remainder of the event.
RACE 8 – 3 HA/MIXX FM PACE (2240 MS)
Hellbound galloped out from the start and will continue out of the standing start draw.
Jimmy Bintang broke shortly after the start and was placed out of the standing start draw.
Yankee Twister was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn before utilising the sprint lane.
RACE 9 – APG- THE INDUSTRY’S NOT FOR PROFIT SALES CO PACE (2240 MS)
Magic Matteo hung in during the score up, was out of position at the start and a warning was placed on its starting manners.
Stewards queried driver Connor Clarke (Whereyagoingbabe fifth placing beaten 30.9m) . Mr. Clarke explained the mare was having its first start for the stable and his instructions had been to drive forward and lead if possible and had comfortably held Isabella Princess out of the mobile, however as that runner continued to apply pressure he elected to surrender the lead towards the 1800 metres and race with a trail however the mare then failed to finish off the race over the final 200m.
