STEWARDS REPORT FOR SWAN HILL

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – SAINT FLASH PACE (2240 MS)

Feels Lika Boss and All Good were late scratchings at 3.27pm with Stewards Permission.

Only In Rome underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Jacob Kerridge replaced Jack Laugher as the driver of Takidah.

Luke Watson replaced Jack Laugher as the driver of Lorne Beach.

Hanover Jack was held up for clear running on the final turn.

Clarenden Legacy shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

Mista Pumblechook utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

Takidah tired from the 600m (beaten 126m, last placing), inconveniencing Lorne Beach.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.  Takidah has now been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

Ah Mach NZ (1st place) was detained on course for approximately 3 hours to enable post-race blood sampling.

RACE 2 RESTREPO 3YO PACE (1750 MS)

Mavericks Jet broke gait when clear of interference at the 900m and will now be placed on its last chance to race truly.

Jaimee hung in after the start and contacted marker pegs.  Jaimee hung in for the majority of the event and tired from the 500m to be beaten 63m into 9th place.  Given the recent racing record of the mare, Jaimee has now been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.  Trainer Alex Ashwood advised Stewards that Jaimee would now be retired from racing.

Scrittore tired from the 700m before being pulled up.  Driver Ellen Tormey could offer no explanation for the performance and the gelding has now been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

James Herbertson, driver of Sea Flyer ($2.4fav) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the filly which was beaten 24m into 6th placing.  Mr.Herbertson stated he was disappointed with the run of Sea Flyer and believed she may have come to the end of her preparation.  Mr.Herbertson’s comments were noted.

RACE 3 – GUARANTEED 2YO & 3YO PACE (2240 MS)

Alex Ashwood was issued a caution for failing to advise Stewards of the driving tactics to be adopted on Delight To Watch and Cheeky Eagle.

A warning was issued against the racing manners of Our Master Play which hung out on the home turn.

Aaron Dunn, trainer/driver of You Beauty ($2.50) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the filly.  Mr.Dunn stated that after he moved into a three wide position entering the home straight to challenge the leaders, he was disappointed with the way You Beauty finished off.  Mr.Dunn added that You Beauty was still immature and would benefit from further race experience.  It was noted by Stewards that the deafeners failed to release on You Beauty in the home straight.

RACE 4 –ARDEN ROONEY PACE (2240 MS)

Didshedoit NZ broke after the start and will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Kendys Butterfly pulled hard during the middle stages.         

Due to the prevailing weather conditions (strong wind), no action was taken against Michelle Phillips (Fiftyshades Cresco) for slow sectional times.

RACE 5 -HECTORJAYJAY PACE (1750 MS)

Red Terror pulled hard during the early stages.

Lightning Jash utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

Alex Ashwood, driver/trainer of Roberts Delight was questioned regarding the driving tactics adopted on the gelding after making a three wide move at the 900m, trailed up by the stablemate My Magic Merlin (Ryan Sanderson).  Mr.Ashwood was questioned about his decision to restrain Roberts Delight once outside the leader Shaken Sands (Jack Laugher) despite appearing to have enough momentum to move to the lead.  Mr.Ashwood stated that as the pace slackened through a slow 2nd quarter (33.2), he elected to progress forward three wide.  As Roberts Delight reached the position outside the leader Mr.Ashwood felt that Mr.Laugher would maintain the lead, which was supported by the video footage.  Shortly after, My Magic Merlin moved to the lead as Shaken Sands was placed under pressure and began to tire.  Mr.Ashwood’s explanation was noted.

Michelle Phillips, driver of Double The Hunter was questioned regarding the driving tactics adopted on the gelding when electing to not take a three wide trailing position at the 900m behind Roberts Delight and My Magic Merlin.  Ms.Phillips stated that she felt that as the pace of the race had slowed significantly, she was concerned that as the third horse in the trail there was a high likelihood that Double The Hunter would be left in a three wide position for the remainder of the race which would be detrimental to the final finishing position.  Stewards could not be satisfied that the driving tactics adopted by Ms.Phillips were unreasonable and her comments were noted.

Shaken Sands tired to be beaten 114m into last placing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from atrial fibrillation.  In accordance with AHR Rule 101C(2)(a), Shaken Sands has been stood down from racing for a period of 14 days, will need to undergo an ECG prior to performing a satisfactory trial and obtaining a vet clearance.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions (strong wind), no action was taken against Jack Laugher (Shaken Sands) for slow sectional times.

RACE 6 – RADIO 1332 3SH PACE (1750 MS)

Hesastar broke gait when clear of interference at the 900m and has now been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Corey Johnson, driver of Clarenden Envoy ($3.60fav) was queried regarding the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 7th position beaten 19m.  Mr.Johnson stated the gelding was a little disappointing given the recent form in South Australia however was mindful that the field tonight was tougher than recent assignments.  Stewards noted the comments.

RACE 7 – MESSINI PACE (2240 MS)

Linxx pulled hard during the middle stages.

Lorimermajor was held up for clear running on the final turn.

Bettor Star was held up for clear running in the home straight.

No Win No Worries ($3.50, 9th placing) underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormality.  Stewards will follow up on the recovery of the mare in coming days.

Louis Emerson, driver of Lorimermajor was issued with a caution for failing to have the gelding in position on the gate when the start was affected.

Michelle Phillips, the driver of Pas Guarantee was found guilty of a charge under AHRR 156(2)(a) for applying her whip in more than a wrist only flicking in the home straight. Ms.Phillips was fined $400 after considering her recent offence record.

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 10 NOVEMBER 2022

Jamie Madruga, trainer of No Win No Worries reported subsequent to the meeting, that the gelding had been diagnosed with a mild virus.  Mr.Madruga stated that No Win No Worries has been treated accordingly and would continue with the current preparation.

RACE 8– MENIN GATE PACE (2240 MS)

Bernie Winkle NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding having started in excess of 200 races. Neither examination revealed any significant abnormalities.

Aaron Coad was issued a caution for failing to advise Stewards of the driving tactics to be adopted on Dennis and Yorkshire NZ.

A false start was declared after Sahara Tiger had a gear issue in the later stages of the score up.

Rocknroll Ronnie underwent a post-race veterinary examination after casting a plate during the event.  The gelding was treated for a minor right fore hoof injury and was stood down from racing for a period of six (6) days.

Hugo Rocks utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

RACE 9 – COLT THIRTY ONE PACE (1750 MS)

Alex Ashwood replaced Tayla French as the driver of Pete Mitchell.

Egbert hung in at the 500m, inconveniencing Moreartsthanclass.

Major Zone tired from the 500m to be beaten 127m into last placing.  The gelding has been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions (strong wind), no action was taken against Michelle Phillips (Im Alright Jack) for slow sectional times.

RACE 10 – MALCOLMS RHYTHM PACE (1750 MS)

The all clear on this event was delayed to allow Stewards to view video footage of the early stages of the home straight where it was established that Horrie Otara, driver by Michael Bellman had moved inside the final marker peg prior to accessing the sprint lane.  Stewards were satisfied that at the stage where Horrie Otara travelled inside the marker peg that the gelding was not progressing forward and subsequently the all clear was given on the judges numbers.  Mr.Bellman was issued a caution for contacting marker pegs.

A warning was issued against the performance of El Banco which tired from the 400m to be beaten 66m.

RACE 11 – OUR MILLIONAIRE PACE (1750 MS)

Michelle Phillips replaced Jack Laugher as the driver of Hand Writer.

Jack Laugher replaced Ellen Tormey as the driver of Hidden Figure.

Smiling Shandy pulled hard during the middle stages.

Loven Laughter was placed on its last chance to race competitively after tiring to be beaten 88m into 6th placing.

Lebowski tired from the 600m to be beaten 202m into last placing.  The gelding will now be stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

The all clear on this event was delayed to allow Stewards to review video footage of the final 100m where it was established that winner of the event Smiling Shandy (James Herbertson) shifted in under pressure which inconvenienced Hand Writer (2nd placed, Michelle Phillips) forcing that mare to contact marker pegs while utilising the sprint lane and remaining under driving to the finish.  A warning was issued against the racing manners of Shifting Shandy and the all clear was given on the judges placings.

No action was taken against Michelle Phillips, driver of Hand Writer who allowed her right foot to slip from the sulky footrest briefly when entering the home straight.
