General – Prior to the all-clear being given, Driver A Diebert (GIRLS LOVE PEARLS NZ) advised Stewards she would like to view the patrol footage of near the 200 metres to ascertain whether she had grounds to lodge a protest against DRESSED IN GOLD NZ after she had to check her runner from behind it when it entered the sprint lane after leading. After viewing the film with Trainer C Thomas, they elected not to proceed with a protest. The all-clear was further delayed for Stewards to review the film of the run down the home straight with respect to the third placed runner DRESSED IN GOLD NZ, which had been the leader, shifting into the sprint lane and being driven out to the finish. After viewing the film with Driver A Richardson, Stewards were satisfied that DRESSED IN GOLD NZ had shifted into the sprint lane, resulting in GIRLS LOVE PEARLS NZ being checked and racing roughly when it attempted to take a run in the sprint lane, and after A Richardson initially attempted to get his runner to shift back out unsuccessfully, he has then continued to drive it out to the finish. Stewards acting under Rule 167(3) relegated DRESSED IN GOLD NZ to the lower placing of 9th as they were of the view Driver A Richardson had not complied with the rule to take all necessary action to remove the horse and sulky from the sprint lane, and all clear was given on the new numbers of 4, 6, 1, 10.

Stewards acting under Rule 167(3) relegated the gelding to the lower placing of 9th as they were of the view Driver A Richardson had not complied with the rule to take all necessary action to remove the horse and sulky from the sprint lane. At a subsequent inquiry, A Richardson pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 167(2) for not taking all necessary action in the home straight to remove DRESSED IN GOLD NZ from the sprint lane. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into consideration A Richardson’s guilty plea, his very good record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the offence. A Richardson had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 14 days.

BILLYSBREDONE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn, prior to obtaining a run in the sprint lane.
