MY ULTIMATE COBBER– Worked forward to take over the lead from METALLICA MAN leaving the 1400 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have bruising to the outside of its near fore heel, consistent with it having cross-fired. When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance, Driver B Jones stated he was of the view the gelding got on itself in the early stages of the race and did not travel as comfortably as it did at its previous start. He added that it was inclined to hang-in rounding the home turn and was a beaten horse at that stage. He further added that he was a little disappointed with its effort over the concluding stages initially, but felt the condition it had following the race explained it.

Driver B Scott was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that near the 1200 metres he shifted the gelding in when not sufficiently clear of IM FEELING FIREY which was tightened for room.

DUST TO DIAMONDS – Hung-in after the start. Caught racing three wide from the start before being restrained to take up a position on the marker pegs at the rear of the field near the 1200 metres. Inconvenienced behind the tiring ICANTSEE near the 400 metres.

He added that it had been working well, so entered the race reasonably confident, having said that he was of the view that the time of the race was not overly fast. Post-race swab sampled.

NAPOLI NIGHTS– Out of position at the start. Driver G Judd was fined $50 under Rule 162(1)(h) for failing to bring the mareup into position behind the barrier at the start.

CHIP GANASSI NZ– Pre-race swab sampled.

Given the circumstances, no action was taken against the gelding for its performance.

HES A TERROR – Inconvenienced leaving the 800 metres when HILLY shifted out. Driver P McRae was questioned regarding him having his foot down form the sulky rest near the 200 metres, he stated he was having difficulty releasing the gelding’s ear plugs at that point. P McRae was reminded of his obligations under the Rule’s regarding the way deafeners can be released using the foot and further reminded that it was his responsibility to ensure his sulky is setup correctly prior to the race.

HILLY– Driver B Micallef was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that leaving the 800 metres he shifted the geldingout when not sufficiently clear of HES A TERROR which was inconvenienced.

RACE 9 – THE TAB APP MAIDEN PACE – 1740 metres

BANE BLOOD was officially withdrawn at 10.02pm. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event, before tiring over the concluding stages, for which a warning was issued. Driver B Hogan reported that after having to drive the gelding forward in the early stages in an attempt to regain his position after being out of position at the start, the gelding got fired up and was contacting its own sulky wheel with its hind leg at various stages.
