Trainers with multiple runners engaged in any race were questioned as to their intended driving tactics.
RACE 1 – TASMANIAN EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES PACE– 2,090 METRES
GUIDO DA SIENA NZover-raced in the lead throughout; locked wheels briefly passing the 100 metres when beaten.
IFBUTZANMAYBES– locked wheels passing the 100 metres when weakening.
SHARMEY– held up rounding the final bend.
NERO STRIDE– held up for the majority of the final straight.
REMEMBER ME NOW NZ– broke entering the first turn – last chance to race truly.
JOHN RICHARD– raced greenly in the score-up and throughout the running.
RACE 2 – TASMANIAN HORSE TRANSPORT PACE– 1,609 METRES
FLO JO CARVALHO– commenced to hang inwards passing the 600 metres and contacted marker pegs rounding final bend- last chance to race truly.
SAFE UNDER FIRE– broke late in score-up and caused false start- excluded from the draw in upcoming starts; compounded over concluding stages- last chance to race competitively.
MOZASU– held up passing the 500 metres and had to shift ground inward to obtain clear racing room.
FURY DAN– held up rounding the final bend.
SLIDE TO UNLOCK– back in mobile draw.
RACE 3 – GREAT NORTHERN PACE– 2,090 METRES
KIWI BLOKE NZ– broke at start and ran out contacting another runner – excluded from standing start draw in upcoming starts; broke briefly near 650 metres – placed on its last chance to race truly.
NORTHVIEW DAVE NZ – broke at start and ran inward contacting another runner- last chance in the draw.
VINNY CHASE– broke after the start- excluded from standing start draw in upcoming starts.
NOBEER NOMORE– broke badly at start and settled well back – continue to be excluded from standing start draws.
RACE 4 – NUTRIEN SPRINTLANE PACE–2,090 METRES
DELIGHTFUL JUNIE– held up rounding the final bend.
SPOOKY GIRL – hung in and contacted marker pegs rounding the final bend; driver cautioned whip action.
NIGHT SPIRIT– held up rounding the final bend.
EYE SEE DOUBLE– held up rounding the final bend.
Driver D Malone was reminded of his obligations, and advised to modify his actions, with respect to his use of the whip when driving out.
RACE 5 – PRYDES EASIFEED PACE–2,090 METRES
DEADLY ASSASSIN– pulled hard in the trail.
OUR BALOU- over-raced in the lead.
WE SALUTE YOU- held up rounding the final bend.
JACK JAMES– gave ground over latter stages.
Stewards questioned driver R Duggan with respect to the run of JACK JAMES which gave ground over the concluding stages and finished well back. In explanation Mr Duggan stated that, in his opinion, the quality of the field, together with the gelding being compelled to race outside the leader on a genuine tempo, had been detrimental to its chances.
RACE 6 –DON'T FORGET TO VOTE PACE–2,090 METRES
SPORTY BEN– held up rounding the final bend.
JO DINA– paced roughly in the score up.
PRINCELY REIGN-inclined to over-race in the lead.
MACH CHARM– driver questioned regarding tactics.
JAKES A JOY– gave ground over latter stages and finished well back- stood down to one satisfactory trial.
BACCARAT-held up rounding the final turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear racing room throughout the final straight.
STYLISH TREND NZ– held up rounding the final bend.
Stewards questioned driver Miss J Chibnall (MACH CHARM) with respect to her driving in the middle stages where she improved three-wide, then restrained to the rear of the field. In explanation Miss Chibnall stated that after settling in the one-out line, the mare then commenced to over-race, prove difficult to settle. In consequence Miss Chibnall elected to let MACH CHARM move forward, however once it became obvious that the driver of the horse outside the leader was intent on retaining that position, she was compelled to restrain. Given all circumstances no further action was required.
RACE 7 – LADBROKES PACE–2,090 METRES
OZZIE MAJOR– held up passing the 500 metres until near the 250 metres.
SOUTHERN GNP NZ– held up passing the 400 metres then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the final straight.
