J. Davis stated that after beginning well he was able to obtain an advantage over ITSALLABOUTNED in approaching and rounding the first turn however when that runner continued to hold its position to his inside he elected to take hold of the colt as he was of the opinion he would have to work to hard to find the lead. OUR PRINCESS KENNEDY NZ – Stewards questioned Driver I. Ross in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the mare in particular the reasons for the leaving a position with cover in the running line to challenge for the lead between the 1500 metre and 1200 metres. I. Ross stated that the mare has performed best when driven in a forward position and when GABBYS REASON found the lead she was of the opinion that the tempo of the event would steady. I. Ross stated that leaving the 1500 metres she elected to move three wide and challenge for the lead however when GABBYS REASON was able to muster speed to her inside she was obliged to work harder then she would have liked to find the lead and in her opinion she may have erred by challenging for a little longer then she would have liked. I. Ross added that once finding the lead she was able to steady the tempo however when placed under pressure from the 400 metres failed to respond to her driving from that point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards after giving consideration to the evidence advised Driver I. Ross that in their opinion she may have erred in her driving tactics by challenging for the lead for longer than required however were of the opinion it fell below the requisite standard for Rule 149(2) and therefore noted the comments.
