STEWARDS REPORT FOR CRANBOURNE

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – CRANBOURNE CLUB 21 - WENDY ADDISON PACE (1609 MS)

Olivia Weidenbach, driver of Goodlookin Rooster NZ was issued a caution for careless driving in allowing that gelding to trail too close to Well Said Harps at the 1600m.

RACE 2 BLUE HILLS RISE PACE (2100 MS)

Nicolescruiser was a late scratching at 4.55pm on Vets Advice.         

A warning was issued against Denstown NZ which broke during the early stages of the score up.

Miss Twinkle hung in during the score up and again on the first turn, contacting marker pegs.

Miss Twinkle and Zaras All Good pulled hard during the middle stages.

Caruso Star hung in under pressure in the home straight.

George Schembri, driver of Miss Twinkle was issued a caution for lack of control approaching the 400m when he attempted to activate gear and permitted the mare to shift away from the marker pegs, inconveniencing Maywyns Jewel and Illawong Danny.

Corey Bell, driver of Maywyns Jewel ($7) was queried regarding the performance of the mare which gave ground from the 500m to finish in last place beaten 58m.  Mr.Bell could offer no explanation for the performance other than stating Maywyns Jewel would derive benefit from the run having recently arrived from Tasmania.  Mr.Bell’s comments were noted.

RACE 3 – DECRON CRANBOURNE CUP - SAT DEC 17 PACE (2100 MS)

Trent From Punchy NZ was a late scratching at 1.56pm on Vets Advice.

Consideration was given to a protest lodged by Corey Bell, driver of Princess Chilla (4th place) against Oceanique (George Batsakis) being declared the winner alleging interference in the home straight. On the available evidence it was established that Oceanique had established a position in the sprint lane and maintained a straight course in the home straight. Stewards could not be sufficiently satisfied that Princess Chilla had suffered any interference and the protest was dismissed.  All clear was then given on the judges placings.

Zac Phillips, driver of Dreamers Delight NZ pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for contributing to interference. The particulars of the charge being that rounding the first turn near the 1300m Mr.Phillips permitted Dreamers Delight NZ to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of Feel The Buzz causing that gelding to contact the near side sulky wheel of Dreamers Delight NZ and was then checked and broke gait. In assessing penalty in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, Stewards considered Mr.Phillip’s guilty plea, his recent driving record under the applicable rule (last offence April 2021, driving frequency, degree of carelessness, degree of interference and the circumstances of the incident. Mr.Phillip’s licence to drive in races was suspended for 10 days to commence midnight 13 November 2022.

RACE 4 –ALDEBARAN PARK 3YO & OLDER MAIDEN TROT (1609 MS)

Mont Sally was a late scratching at 9.14am on Vets Advice.  

Posh Kyvalley underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to this filly not starting in a race since November 2021. Both examinations revealed no abnormalities.

Scott Ewen, trainer of Alleyes was issued a caution for failing to produce the registration card for the mare.

Tubs Now Slim broke in the score up and was out of position at the start.  The gelding trailed the field and will now be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Blanco Canyon was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Imasocialbutterfly pulled hard while outside the leader.

A warning was issued against Posh Kyvalley which broke gait when clear of interference at the 1900m and again at the 500m.

Alleyes (4th place) broke under pressure free of interference over the concluding stages, continued over the line in the incorrect gait and was being covered by Imasocialbutterfly (5th place).  As such, the activation of VLR 155A(2), and Alleyes was placed behind the Imasocialbutterfly, and the all clear given on the new numbers of 1-4-7-5.

RACE 5 -GORDON LOCKMAN MEMORIAL PACE (1609 MS)

Connections of Byalla Boy were advised the gelding was required on course four hours prior to this event for a pre-race blood sample due to the gelding being on the HRV Elevated TC02 policy.    

Celestial Gossip was held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.

Over The Odds NZ utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

Ryan Duffy, driver of Byalla Boy was issued a caution for half carting at the 700m.

Anthony Butt, driver of Bigjimvalentine was issued a caution for shifting ground entering the home straight, inconveniencing Byalla Boy.

RACE 6 – LATHER UP STANDING @ WOODLANDS STUD PACE (1ST SEMI-FINAL) (2100 MS)

Kendys Butterfly pulled hard during the middle stages.

Lenard Ess cast a plate during the middle stages and was held up for clear running on the final turn and in the home straight.

Playa Blanca utilised the sprint lane in the home straight.

Kia Ora Beauty (Ken Tippett) was tightened for racing room and raced roughly at the 300m.  Upon reviewing the video footage it was established that Conspirator NZ (Zac Phillips) shifted inwards when inconvenienced by Sweet Sangria (which was giving ground) and made contact to the off side front leg of Kia Ora Beauty. Stewards were satisfied that the interference could not be attributed to any horse or driver and took the matter no further.

Michael Bellman, driver of Sweet Sangria was queried regarding the performance of the mare which gave ground from the 600m to be beaten 38m into last placing.  Mr.Bellman could offer no explanation for the poor effort and stated the stable was confident of a forward showing.  Mr.Bellman’s comments were noted and a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

RACE 7 – HYGAIN PACE (2100 MS)

Dun It Bad NZ underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations under the HRV horse welfare policy due to this gelding not starting in a race since August 2021. Both examinations revealed no abnormalities.

Exclusive Dancer has been placed on its last chance to race truly after breaking gait when clear of interference at the 1800m, checking Joshua Richard NZ which broke. 

A Perfect Dance pulled hard in the lead.

Luke Dunne, driver of Treacherous Saint was queried regarding the performance of the gelding which tired from the 700m to be beaten 104m into last placing.  Mr.Dunne stated that Treacherous Saint pulled hard while racing outside the leader in the early stages but in his opinion travelled well from the 1400m. Mr.Dunne’s comments were noted and a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery.  Treacherous Saint has been stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

Chris Svanosio, driver of Norms Lady ($1.75 fav) was queried regarding the performance of the mare which finished in 3rd position beaten 12m.  Mr.Svanosio stated he was a little disappointed in the filly over the closing stages however believes Norms Lady wasn’t suited to racing without cover for the majority.  Stewards noted Mr.Svanosio’s comments.

A post-race swab sample ordered from the winner A Perfect Dance was subsequently aborted due to the mare posing a significant safety risk to the veterinary and swabbing officials during their attempts.

RACE 8– CRANBOURNE FENCING TROT (1609 MS)

Champagne Charley was out of position at the start and broke after the start.  The gelding will continue to be placed outside of the draw in future mobile start events.

Bundalong Bruiser broke gait when clear on interference at the 500m.  Stewards noted that the near side lugging pole came adrift as a result.

Kyvalley Surfrider contacted marker pegs on the home turn prior to utilising the sprint lane.

RACE 9– NUTRIEN EQUINE MAIDEN PACE (1609 MS)

Our Sammy Jae was a late scratching at 6.46pm on Vets Advice.

Cantseeme raced roughly after the start and has now been placed on its last chance in the mobile draw.

Sparkling Sue pulled hard during the middle stages.

A warning was issued against Ima Bad Molly which hung out during the score up.  The mare then raced roughly and hung in under pressure in the home straight while giving ground.
