STEWARDS REPORT FOR CHARLTON

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – THE VALE OF AVOCA 3YO TROT (2100 MS)
Our Trixter ($11) raced roughly under pressure rounding the home turn on the final occasion and then tired to be beaten 81.3m. The gelding underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities and as such a warning was issued for the beaten margin.
RACE 2 – GMG FINANCIAL GROUP 3YO MAIDEN PACE (2100 MS)
Flowertop Mountain hung out in the score-up and a warning was issued. Hartnett (6) and Modern Jive (7) who were drawn to the outside of Flowertop Mountain were both inconvenienced and out of position when the start was effected. Given the circumstances, no action was taken against Hartnett or Modern Jive.
Flowertop Mountain jumped an object heading into the back straight on the first occasion and broke gait. The filly then raced roughly heading into the back straight on the final occasion when commencing to progress forward from the rear in a three-wide position. Flowertop Mountain will now be placed on her last chance to race truly.
Modern Jive tired to be beaten 60.7m and a warning was issued for the beaten margin.
Cherokee Jac raced roughly and broke gait heading into the back straight on the first occasion and will be placed on his last chance to race truly. Further, the gelding then tired to be beaten 106.8m and will now be placed on his last chance to race competitively.
RACE 3 – CRICKET CLUB HOTEL TROTTERS HANDICAP (2100 SS)
Brent Lilley, trainer of Whatwillbeewillbee NZ was cautioned for presenting the gelding in gear that was not accurately recorded.
Jazspur broke gait after the start and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The mare trailed the field thereafter. Flash Kyvalley who was drawn behind Jazspur, was inconvenienced.
Whatwillbeewillbee NZ was fractious before the start and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future standing start events. The gelding then broke gait in the back straight on the final occasion and galloped excessively thereafter. Given his recent record, Whatwillbeewillbee NZ will now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one (1) occasion. Flash Kyvalley was inconvenienced, having to maneuver wider around Whatwillbeewillbee NZ.
Whos Countn broke gait rounding the first turn. No action was taken given the entire’s clear recent record.
Night Whisperer and Emdeegee NZ were both checked by Whos Countn and broke gait as a result, with driver Ashley Ainsworth (Night Whisperer) issued with a caution for shifting ground the way he maneuvered away from the peg line to avoid Whos Countn when not clear of Emdeegee NZ to his outside. Flash Kyvalley was inconvenienced, having to maneuver wider around Emdeegee NZ.
Highland Hill broke gait under pressure rounding the home turn on the final occasion. No action was taken owing to the gelding’s clear recent record.
RACE 4 – ELDERS TROT (2100 MS)
The racebook failed to show Greg Sugars as the driver of Benny The Gun.
Benny The Gun broke in the early part of the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The gelding trailed the field thereafter. Tictok was inconvenienced by Benny The Gun and was out of position when the start was effected. Given the circumstances, no action was taken against Tictok.
Onestep Ahead broke in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The mare then broke gait free of interference at approx. the 600m. No action was taken against Onestep Ahead, owing to the fact the mare was on debut and had a clear recent record.
Mercenary led and hung out under pressure in the back straight on the final occasion. The gelding then contacted a marker peg rounding the final turn and shifted out under pressure for most of the home straight in the run to the line. Given the totality of behaviors, the gelding was issued with a warning.
Majestic Achiever NZ was held up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion and in the early part of the home straight.
Singing The Girl tired to be beaten 111.4m. Given the margins between the placings, Stewards displayed some leniency and placed the mare on her last chance to race competitively.
Brett Shipway, trainer, and driver of Black and Gold ($8.00 and beaten 30.3m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the mare. Mr. Shipway explained that Black and Gold had been re-shod in the days prior to today’s event and may not have been comfortable in her gait throughout the run. Black and Gold underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Stewards intend to follow up with connections in the coming days as to the mare’s recovery.
RACE 5 – CHARLTON CELEBRATES JULY 4TH PACE (1609 MS)
Owen Martin, trainer of Aerodyne Guy was issued with a caution for the late declaration of driver Jason Ainsworth.
Strawberry Delight was held-up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion before utilizing the sprint lane. The gelding then raced roughly under pressure over the concluding stages.
Friends commenced to pull hard rounding the first turn and into the home straight with one lap to run.
RACE 6 – PCFA CRITICAL CATCH PACE (1609 MS)
Fragmental hung out in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and a warning was issued.
Jordan Leedham, driver of Mister Pumblechook was cautioned for not having the gelding in position at the candy pole, during the score-up.
Northern Terror hung-in under pressure for most of the home straight on the final occasion.
Abbey Fields was held-up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion before utilizing the sprint lane.
Riverina Flash was held up and unable to obtain clear running for most of the home straight on the final occasion.
RACE 7 – CHARLTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY BANK PACE (1609 MS)
Hair Razor hung out under pressure rounding the final turn and then raced roughly in the early part of the home straight.
RACE 8 – JOSEPHINE O'GORMAN @ THE AGENCY PACE (2100 MS)
Aladdin NZ broke in the score-up, was out of position when the start as effected and will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.
Bonavista Boy hung out upon entering the home straight with one lap to run, when leading the event.
Dot The Eye was held-up for clear running rounding the home turn on the final occasion before utilizing the sprint lane.
Wilshire Boulevard was out of position when the start was effected. Given the runner drawn to his outside (Aladdin NZ) had broken gait, no action was taken against driver Lochie Cook.
Kerryn Manning, driver of Our Classie Reactor NZ was cautioned for not having the gelding in position when the start was effected.
RACE 9 – NORTH WEST AG SERVICES TROT (2100 MS)
Majestic Pride was fractious in the early part of the score-up, requiring assistance from the Clerk of the Course, then broke in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The mare trailed the field thereafter.
Star Down Under raced roughly in the score-up, was out of position when the start was effected and will be placed on his last chance in the draw.
Chris Alford, driver of Kyvalley Surfrider NZ ($3.80 favorite and beaten 33.2m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding. Mr. Alford explained that Kyvalley Surfrider NZ hung out for much of the event and did not feel comfortable in the run. Kyvalley Surfrider NZ underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities and as such, a warning was issued for the totality of behaviours during the run. Stewards intend to follow up with connections in the coming days as to the gelding’s recovery.
Ashley Ainsworth, driver of My Honey Beware ($81 and tired to be beaten 50m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the mare. Mr. Ainsworth explained that My Honey Beware travelled well in the run and that he could offer no tangible explanation for the performance. My Honey Beware underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Given the margins between the placings, Stewards displayed some leniency and took no action against My Honey Beware for the beaten margin.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 29 JUNE 2022
Brent Lilley, trainer of Kyvalley Surfrider NZ advised subsequent to the poor performance at Charlton on June 20 2022, that the gelding had recovered well. Mr.Lilley stated Kyvalley Surfrider NZ is engaged at Geelong (29 June 2022).
RACE 10 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MAIDEN PACE (2100 MS)
Michael Bellman was an approved late driver change on Lets Go Cresco, replacing Daryl Crone (indisposed).
Linxx pulled hard in the score-up.
Tellmesumthingrl raced roughly after the start and will now be placed on her last chance in the draw. Linxx, who was drawn behind Tellmesumthingrl was inconvenienced by that runner. Zero Doubt, Rafatom, Lets Go Cresco, Fullofit and Milly Patone were all inconvenienced after the start to varying degrees by Tellmesumthingrl.
Tellmesumthingrl broke gait heading out of the back straight and into the final turn when travelling outside the leader. Zero Doubt and Linxx who were both trailing Tellmesumthingrl was severely checked and contacted the sulky of that runner. Rafatom and Lets Go Cresco were checked. Fullofit was inconvenienced. Tellmesumthingrl will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one (1) occasion and will be stood down for ten (10) days.
RACE 11 – FITZPATRICKS TRANSPORT PACE (2100 MS)
Tony Berg, trainer of Inaugurate was issued with a caution for the late declaration of driver James Herbertson.
Boldyou was out of position when the start was effected and will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events. The rig then tired to be beaten 51.2m, however given the margins between the placings, Stewards displayed some leniency and took no action against Boldyou for the beaten margin.
Jack Laugher, driver of Gotonebettor was cautioned for half-carting in the back straight on the final occasion.
Ellen Tormey, driver of Son of Zodiac ($8.50 and beaten 47.3m) was questioned regarding the overall performance of the gelding. Ms. Tormey explained that she could offer no tangible reason and was disappointed in the performance. Son of Zodiac underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Scott Rains, driver of Illawong Jovial was fined the sum of $200 pursuant to AHRR 156(2)(a) for applying the whip to the gelding with more than a wrist-only flicking action in the home straight on the final occasion. Considering penalty, in accordance with the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines, it was noted that Mr. Rains had a clear recent record under this rule.
