RACE 6 – ACT TYREPOWER BELCONNEN PACE – 2170 metres
IRK MCGLURK– Hampered when caught behind the weakening ZOSHADY between the 1000 metres and the 800 metres. Driver M Sullivan pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(b) for forcing another runner to cover more ground than necessary in that approaching the 750 metres he has shifted IRK MCGLURK up the track whilst having SEE ME NO MORE racing to its outside and as a result SEE ME NO MORE was required to be taken up the track and cover more ground than necessary. Driver M Sullivan had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 7 days which was ordered to commence midnight 14 November 2022. Failed to run on from the 700 metres after being checked to be beaten 141 metres. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
ZOSHADY– Driver A Walshaw was found guilty of a charge under Rule 149(2) for an unacceptable drive in that after beginning well she elected to maintain the lead from approximately the 1600 metres when MICK DANGER had improved to her outside and she had an opportunity to provide ZOSHADY with some respite in circumstances where her mare had been racing in poor form and having its first start over the 2170 metres. This would have provided her with an opportunity to follow MICK DANGER, a horse with superior form and her failure to do so in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable and had contributed to her horse being beaten 147.4 metres and finished in last placing. Ms Walshaw had her licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 4 weeks which was ordered to commence midnight 14 November 2022. In assessing penalty Stewards considered Ms Walshaw’s driving record which indicated being licenced for over 28 years, her A Grade driving status, the circumstances of this incident and her plea.
SHESAGRADUATE– Over raced throughout the event.
SEE ME NO MORE– Pre-race blood sample. Checked and forced wider on the track leaving the 700 metres when IRK MCGLURK shifted up the track to its inside before breaking gait near the 650 metres.
MISS BALLET– Hampered approaching the 700 metres when being taken back behind the weakening ZOSHADY and IRK MCGLURK. Driver P Sapio was issued a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(b) in that he allowed his runner to shift wider following the movement of IRK MCGLURK and as a result LIGHT UP LILY was taken wider and cover more ground than necessary. In not taking more sever action it was noted that LIGHT UP LILY had moved up the track to a small degree to allow racing room to the outside of MISS BALLET and considered the contributing factor of the false line set by IRK MCGLURK.
LIGHT UP LILY– Checked and taken wider approaching the 700 metres when MISS BALLET was steadied up the track to its inside.
MICK DANGER– Improved three wide from the 1900 metres until working forward to obtain the position outside of the leader passing the 1600 metres and improving to the lead approaching the 900 metres. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 7 – JW O’SULLIVAN & SONS TROTTERS MOBILE - 1770 metres
ERATIGENA– Trotted roughly leaving the 600 metres.
SALLY EM– Stewards questioned Driver G Forrest in relation to his tactics adopted throughout the event in particular his decision to improve to the outside and race in advance of VIKSUN approaching the 1000 metres. Mr Forrest explained that his intentions leading into the event were to be forward however, when he noticed VIKSUN was leading he did look to work forward to try and obtain the lead as VIKSUN has been known to take cover in previous starts. Mr Forrest stated that when VIKSUN maintained the lead, he allowed his drive to stride forward and maintain pressure on the leader given that in his opinion it was a weaker mare. Mr Forrest explained that approaching the 400 metres his runner had hung in and he was required to steady up the track and as a result did lose momentum. Stewards further questioned Mr Forrest as to his tactics approaching the 250 metres when it did appear ORLANDO STORM was able to obtain a run between SALLY EM and VIKSUN. Mr Forrest explained that leading up to this point, he had to steady his runner wider as it was hanging in and this resulted in SALLY EM moving slightly wider on the track. Mr Forrest explained that approaching the 250 metres he didn’t believe there was sufficient racing room for another runner and was surprised when looking to his inside and seeing ORLANDO STORM had placed its legs in that position. Stewards adjourned this inquiry to a date and time to be fixed to allow the Stewards to consider the evidence of Driver G Forrest.
ORLANDO STORM– Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
DOWN UNDER RORS– A pre and post-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding having completed in excess of 200 race starts. No obvious abnormalities were detected on either examination. Became unbalanced and galloped during the score up for which a warning was issued. Sustained a flat tyre approaching the 600 metres.
CRITTER BOY– Improved three wide from the 1400 metres and worked forward before being restrained to the tail of the field approaching the 1100 metres when the position outside of the leader was not available. Became unbalanced and galloped approaching the 300 metres for which a warning was issued. Will now be re-included into the mobile barrier draw.
