Post-race veterinary examination of High Flying Harry NZ ($2.10 fav – beaten 15m) revealed the gelding to be displaying abnormal respiratory sounds. The stable advised blood samples would be conducted in the coming days and undertook to report those findings to Stewards.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for The Last Chance breaking gait approaching the 200m. After taking evidence from drivers Cody Crossland (The Last Chance), Ryan Sanderson (Vanquish Stride NZ) and review of the available replays it was established that passing the 300m Sixty, which was positioned on the marker pegs, hung out resulting in Wheres Seggy being tightened out onto The Last Chance which shifted out contacting the sulky of Vanquish Stride NZ resulting in The Last Chance breaking gait. A warning was placed on the record of Sixty.

Post-race veterinary examination of Sixty revealed the gelding to be displaying the Thumps. Sixty will now be stood down from racing until a veterinary clearance is tendered.

Ellen Tormey, driver of Bernie Winkle NZ, explained she elected to remain following Sicario passing the 800m as Reactor Now commenced to improve three wide consistent with the usual racing pattern of the gelding. Ms Tormey further added that in doing so she was mindful of the moderate speed set up until that point which would make it increasingly difficult to make ground wide, that Bernie Winkle NZ is best driven when saved for one run as late as possible and that she felt Sicario (2nd favourite) was a suitable runner to follow. Ms Tormey added rounding the final turn she was hopeful of obtaining the position ahead of Pocket Thedeal NZ as that runner commenced to give ground, however was unsuccessful in doing so which resulted in Bernie Winkle NZ being held up to the finish.

RACE 10 – WOODLANDS STUD PACE (1650 MS)

The all clear of this event delayed allowing Daryl Douglas, driver of 3rd placed Major Watson NZ, the opportunity to review the available replays over the concluding stages. Upon review Mr Douglas declined to lodge a protest and all clear was given.

Approaching the 300m Major Watson NZ commenced to shift out to secure clear running as Feel The Reign commenced to give ground simultaneous to Rockntommy Rulz NZ shifting in resulting in Major Watson NZ not establishing a full run outside of Captain Maastricht and consequently Major Watson NZ racing in restricted room thereafter.

Tayla French, driver of Rockntommy Rulz NZ, was cautioned for permitting the gelding to shift in approaching the finish tightening Major Watson NZ in onto Captain Maastricht which was steadied as a consequence.
