Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 –AVIVA COMMUNITIES BENDIGO 3YO VICBRED MAIDEN TROT (2150 MS)
Hurricane Jane galloped shortly after the start was affected and will continue right out of the draw for future mobile start races. Hurricane Jane trailed the field for the remainder of the race.
Sir Ed was out of position at the start and was continued out of the draw for future mobile start races.
Hold That Gold commenced to over-race and briefly raced roughly at the 700m.
Buckles galloped when placed under pressure in the home straight over the concluding stages.
Hold That Gold was held up over the latter stages and unable to obtain a clear run.
RACE 2 – GREAT OCEAN ROAD REAL ESTATE 2YO VICBRED MAIDEN PACE(1650 MS)
During the pre race warm up, Buddy became fierce and driver Connor Clarke was unable to fully control the gelding, requiring assistance from the Clerk of the Course. Mr Clarke became unseated due to the sulky contacting the hind leg of the Clerks horse. Shortly after, Buddy fell to the track while driverless as it attempted to jump a marker peg. A veterinary examination revealed that Buddy was displaying lameness in the right hind leg and had suffered abrasions and contusions to the mouth and chest. Buddy was a late scratching at 5.57 pm on veterinary advice. Buddy was treated and stood down from racing for a period of 7 days. Buddy was also stood down to a veterinary clearance and until the completion of one satisfactory trial. Driver Connor Clarke was cleared of any injuries by the attending Ambulance officials.
The start of the race was further delayed due to the Clerk of the Course horse requiring veterinary attention after the incident.
Remedial work to the racetrack surface was also carried out.
This race started approximately 14 minutes after the advertised start time.
Unit Forty One was out of position at the start. Given the significant delay to the start, no action was taken against the gelding’s barrier manners.
Hy Filante hung in as the start was affected and galloped resulting in Itzmineontheline being checked and locking wheels with My Filante. This resulted in Unit Forty One and My Ultimate Rusty also being checked and My Ultimate Rusty raced roughly. Given the significant delay to the start and that Hy Filante was having its first race start the gelding will be given one last chance in the mobile barrier draw.
Hy Filante pulled hard during the early stages and was directed three wide rounding the first turn to race outside the leader. Hy Filante continued to race fiercely throughout.
Credulous and Spicey Major pulled hard during the middle stages.
At approximately the 300m, Spicey Major hung in under pressure despite the efforts of its driver and contacted the hind leg of Credulous resulting in that filly being checked and gallop. A warning was issued against the racing manners of Spicey Major.
Lavada Gold tired to be beaten approximately 100m and will be given one last chance to race competitively.
Itzmineontheline was held up over the concluding stages and unable to obtain a clear run.
RACE 3 – SOLAR1 ELECTRICAL BENDIGO TROT(1650 MS)
The start time for this race was amended to 6.37 pm as a result of the previous delay to race 2.
Majestic Pride was fractious and required assistance from the Clerk of the Course prior to the start. Majestic Pride then galloped during the middle stages of the score up and again during the latter stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. Majestic Pride will continue right out of the draw in future mobile start races.
Major Max galloped as the start was affected and will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start races. Major Max trailed the field there after.
Jessicas Story began badly and was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races. Jessicas Story trailed the field for the remainder of the race.
Vincent Kai pulled hard during the score up prior to showing gate speed to lead.
It was noted that the hind leg spreader on This Quaker broke over the latter stages of the race. This Quaker commenced to race roughly under pressure and paced over the concluding stages. The gear was inspected subsequent to the race and found to be in satisfactory condition and no further action was taken.
Surprise To Me was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight.
Reigning Lillies was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn before utilising the sprint lane in the home straight.
RACE 4 – RAGING BULL @ LLOWALONG FARMS PACE (1650 MS)
Caesar Moon was examined by the club veterinarian pre and post-race under the HRV horse welfare policy due to the gelding not racing since February 2021. Caesar Moon was cleared of any obvious abnormalities and passed fit to race.
Balmy Bob raced ungenerously when being restrained by its driver after showing initial gate speed. Rounding the first turn, Betterthanflyhigh shifted out momentarily while leading resulting in Balmy Bob, which was racing to its outside, being inconvenienced. Balmy Bob continued to pull hard throughout while racing outside the leader.
RACE 5 - J&A MAZZETTI PAINTING PACE(1650 MS)
Miss Hermes galloped during the early stages of the score up before regaining its barrier position at release. Miss Hermes will continue out of the draw in future mobile start races.
Didshedoit NZ galloped during the middle stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. This mare was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races.
Driver Ryan Sanderson (Dont Waste Time) was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements while leading after recording the second quarter in 33.1 seconds.
My Darling Devine underwent a post-race veterinary examination due to the mare returning after the race with blood present in its mouth. Upon examination it was revealed that My Darling Devine had a severe laceration to the left half of the rostral (tongue) and was stood down from racing for a period of 7 days on veterinary advice.
RACE 6 – SOUTHERN CROSS OFFICE EQUIPMENT (SCOE) 3YO MAIDEN PACE(2150 MS)
Interpretation pulled hard during the middle stages as driver Tayla French attempted to relinquish the position outside the leader to Ya Bottom Dollar as it improved three wide at the 1200m.
Interpretation and Sharkattack were both held up for clear runs rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight.
Hello I Tea hung in under pressure at approximately the 250m tightening the racing room of Jersey Sam which resulted in that gelding shifting in and contacting marker pegs.
RACE 7 – FORTY WINKS PACE(1650 MS)
Whata Journey hung out during the score up and was out of position at the start. Whata Journey continued to hang out after the start and a warning was issued against the mare’s barrier manners.
Whata Journey hung out while racing on the peg line at approximately the 400m. When attempting to improve in the sprint lane over the concluding stages it was apparent the mare hung out again. Driver Jack Laugher reported that he had experienced difficulty steering Whata Journey and was unable to fully test the mare over the concluding stages. A warning was issued against the mares racing manners.
Shezabluechip was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn behind Shaq as it commenced to give ground after racing outside the leader throughout.
RACE 8 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE (2150 MS)
Rockntommy Rulz NZ was held up for a clear run rounding the final turn and improved quickly over the latter stages in the sprint lane to finish in 2nd placing.
RACE 9 – HAEUSLERS ECHUCA TROT (2150 MS)
A false start was declared at the first attempt due to an operational error with the mobile barrier resulting in the mobile slowing at release.
At the restart Everybodylovesme galloped during the middle stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. Considering the previous false start Everybodylovesme will be given one last chance in the mobile barrier draw.
Countess Chiron galloped during the score up and was out of position on both occasions and will continue out of the draw in future mobile start races.
At the restart Tension Seeker raced roughly for a short distance after the start.
Sarahleonie Bow and Waikare Colleen pulled hard during the middle stages.
Everybodylovesme galloped clear of interference approaching the 1600m.
