STEWARDS REPORT FOR BENDIGO

Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted

 

RACE 1 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY 3YO PACE (1690 MS)

The official race book was amended to correct the starting time to 5:03pm.

Still Playin Nz was declared a late scratching at 4.32pm on veterinarian advice when the trainer Maryann Lathin reported the filly to have a high temperature and required veterinarian treatment at their stable location.

Entering the first turn, Trirockin was checked and broke gate when steading off the back of Modern Jive, as a result of the pace being eased by Littleblabbamouth which was positioned outside of the leader. At a subsequent inquiry David Barbetti, the driver of Littleblabbamouth was caution for easing the pace.

A post-race veterinarian examination of Trirockin which failed to run on over the concluding stages to finish in 6th position beaten 32.3m ($5.50), failed to reveal any significant findings other than an old abrasion to the lateral aspect of the left fore cannon with no lameness detected. When questioned regarding the performance driver Darby McGuigan noted his disappointment in the gelding and was unable to provide any explanation.

Jack Laugher, the driver of Modern Jive was found guilty of a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for applying his whip at various stages in the home straight in more than a wrist only flicking motion and applied overt force. Mr. Laugher was fined $400 after considering his recent offence record.

RACE 2 SMARTLINE PERSONAL MORTGAGE ADVISERS PACE (1690 MS)

The official race book was amended to correct the starting time to 5:34pm.

Playnice (Barrier 10) was out of position at the start and will continue to be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Meggs Is Me (Barrier 4) broke gate shortly after the start resulting in the trailing, Occiano being checked and breaking gait. Meggs Is Me will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Playnice was held up for clear run over the concluding stages of the event.

RACE 3 – BENDIGO LOCKSMITHS 2YO VICBRED PACE (2190 MS)

Black Tuxedo (Barrier 3) broke gate shortly after the start and will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Entering the first turn, Misslola which displayed gate speed, hung out taking Major Milestone wider and racing towards the home straight on the first occasion, filly continued to hang out before striking the sulky of Blake Bolac which had been improving to its outside and paced roughly. It was further noted that over the concluding stages of the event the filly hung out when placed under pressure. When questioned regarding the performance driver Austin Mifsud explained that he elected to drive the filly forward at the start and withstood the challenge by Major Milestone given that in his opinion that runner would like obtain cover placing his filly further back in the field. In view of the trackability issues raised, a warning was issued.

RACE 4 –TLC CARPENTRY PACE (2190 MS)

Didshedoit NZ was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight prior to utilising the sprint lane.

RACE 5 -BENDIGO SKI BOAT CENTRE PACE (2190 MS)

Evie Beautiful was examined by the club veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the mare not racing in the previous 12 months. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Bettor Sport raced keenly throughout the event and had difficultly obtaining clear running in the home straight on the final occasion and it was not fully tested.

Alex Ashwood the trainer and driver of Lightning Jash was question as to the gelding’s performance when failing to run on over the concluding stages to finish in 6th position, beaten 11.6m ($2.70 Favourite). Mr. Ashwood acknowledged his disappointment in the run and started that his gelding did not feel as sharp as it had done so in its previous 3 runs.

Michelle Phillips the driver of Double The Hunter pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) in that in the home straight on the final occasion applied her whip in more than a wrist only flicking motion and used overt force. Ms. Phillips was fined $200 after considering her recent offence record.

Darby McGuigan the driver of Blood Moon reported that near the 1000m after obtaining cover, his filly commenced to make contact with the of side sulky wheel resulting in it flattening and also causing damage. Stewards inspected the wheel post event and confirmed the damage and a claim form has now been submitted.

RACE 6 – HALLOWEEN DUAL CODE MEETING 3YO PACE (2190 MS)

The start of this event was delayed slightly as a result of Ingermarla requiring a replacement tongue tie.

Corey Bell the driver of Choir Queen which finished in 9th position was beaten 25.7m ($4.00) explained that his filly failed to run on after making use of the filly in the early stages and given Choir Queen was first up since 24 March 2022, he would expect improvement with the run. A post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7 – GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND PACE (1690 MS)

Hesastar (Barrier 8) broke gate during the score up, was out of position at the start and trailed the field throughout will now be excluded from the mobile barrier draw.

Abby Sanderson the driver of Valour Stride which failed to run on over the concluding stages to finish in 5th position beaten 58.1m ($7.00), explained that her gelding felt plain in tonight’s event and was unable to offer any further explanation. The post-race veterinarian examination failed to reveal and abnormalities.

RACE 8 – SCHWEPPES PACE (1690 MS)

Prior to the commencement of this event the mobile barrier was tested following a heavy rain and deemed safe and suitable for racing.

No racing incident to report

RACE 9 – RACE SERVICES PACE (1690 MS)

Realy Under Fire was examined by the club veterinarian prior to and following the event, as a result of the gelding being 12 years of age and has competed in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on either examination.

Kevin Jnr Weidenbach, the driver of Mister Rebel was remined of his obligation with regard to his whip use displayed in the back straight on the final occasion when improving 3 wide, in addition to crossing his reigns on approach to the winning post.

Cresco Threepeat was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.  

RACE 10 – HARAS DES TROTTEURS PACE (1690 MS)

Silky Smooth Excuse NZ was declared a late scratching at 4:32pm on Stewards permission.

Ideal Investment was examined by the club’s veterinarian prior to and following the event as a result of the gelding racing in excess of 200 race starts. No abnormalities were detected on ether examination.

Well Well raced keenly during the middle stages.

Charlie Borg the driver of Blue Chipper war reminded of his obligations with regards to his whip use displayed in the home starting.

Ideal Investment, which raced outside the leader throughout commenced to weaken from the 500m resulting in the trailing Smiling Shandy being checked and taken back until shifting wider near the 400m. Ideal Investment failed to run on thereafter and finishing in 9th position 60.2m. Corey Bell, the driver of Ideal Investment indicated that when making use of his gelding in the early stages and being unable to cross to the lead, his gelding failed to settle when positioned outside the leader and proved disappointing. Mr. Bell added that going forward connection would look to drive the gelding in a more conservative manner.

RACE 11 – GREAT OCEAN ROAD REAL ESTATE PACE (1690 MS)

Hoppers Dream was declared a late scratching at 3:08pm on veterinarian advice.

Illawong Kellie (Barrier 8) broke gate during the score up but was able to fill its position by the starting point. The mare was placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

On approach to the home straight, Magnified which was giving ground had it offside sulky tire contacted by the trailing Illawong Kellie.

Illawong Kellie was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
