RACE 1 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 2260 metres

WARIEDA BOY – Slow to begin.

MANHATTAN ISLAND– Stewards questioned driver J Reynolds with regards to the performance of the gelding which weakened from the 500 metres to be beaten 63 metres. J Reynolds stated that due to the quick lead time and also the race being over the longer distance the gelding wasn’t entirely suited. J Reynolds further added that they will now look to restrict the gelding to racing over shorter distances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In view of the performance a warning was issued.

IM BILLS LAST NZ– Pre race blood sample.

PALE FACE JO– Stewards questioned driver N Turnbull with regards to the performance of the gelding which weakened over the 500 metres to be beaten 73 metres. N Turnbull stated that due to the fast lead time he was forced to allow the gelding to stride along to make contact with the leading horses and when THE RAINBOW BEACH broke stride near the 1600 metres, he was left racing without cover which in his opinion is detrimental to the gelding’s chances. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate. In view of the performance a warning was issued.

CARBAGANOOSH– Stewards questioned driver E Dwyer in relation to her driving tactics rounding the home turn and the reasons for not utilising the sprint lane. E Dwyer stated that her gelding is a one paced horse and therefore due to IM BILLS LAST NZ commencing to give ground prior to the sprint lane she elected to shift wider on the track to keep the geldings momentum going forward rather than being held up and having to sprint which the gelding isn’t suited. Stewards noted her comments.

THE RAINBOW BEACH– Stewards questioned driver M Turnbull in regards to the driving tactics adopted on the gelding in the early stages of the event. M Turnbull stated that it was his intention to drive forward at the start in an endeavour to find the lead and although running along at a quick tempo he was of the opinion that he would be able to find the lead if he continued to challenge IM BILLS LAST NZ. Near the 1600 metres the gelding become unbalanced and galloped. A warning was issued. Stewards after the considering the evidence noted the comments of driver M Turnbull.

RAINBOW TITAN– Leaving the 400 metres until near the 200 metres, checked behind the tiring PALE FACE JO.

HALL STITCHED UP– Fractious in the early stages of the score up and was out of position at the start. A warning was issued. Stewards questioned driver N Turnbull with regards to his driving tactics adopted on the mare during the middle stages of the event. N Turnbull stated that after racing at the rear of the field he was of the opinion that TULHURST DANCER which was racing outside the lead was looking for cover and therefore he elected to move three wide near the 1200 metres however shortly after him moving three wide MONEY HONEY NZ improved three wide forward of him to the position outside the leader and as a result he was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Stewards noted the comments.

IBBIN NADIA– Pre race blood sample.

RYANS GANGSTER– Stewards questioned driver O Frisby with regards to the driving tactics adopted on the gelding in particular the reasons for surrendering the lead to BLAZE COOPS near the 1600 metres. Driver O. Frisby advised that she was instructed to attempt to find the lead and then surrender that position as in the connections opinion the gelding isn’t suited to leading over the longer distance along with the gelding racing well recently when driven with cover. Driver O Frisby stated that after finding the lead shortly after the start as per her instructions he was looking to obtain cover from FAZE OF GLORY NZ which although was racing towards the rear of the field that runner was still wide on the track and in her opinion it would progress forward and would surrender that positon. O. Frisby further added that when steadying the speed she was unaware that BLAZE COOPS had shifted from a marker peg position and as a result when it improved quickly to her outside she allowed her runner to attempt to withstand the challenge for a short distance however due toBLAZE COOPS having momentum she elected to take cover from that runner. O. Frisby further added that once racing three back along she attempted to shift wider on the track rounding the home turn to obtain clear running however she was obliged to take hold near 150 metres when she improved into a position where there was insufficient room to do so between LAVAZZA and BLAZE COOPS and as a result she shifted wider on the track and was held for the remainder of the home straight. Trainer B. Hewitt confirmed the instructions issued to Driver O. Frisby and stated that he was satisfied with the tactics in tonight’s event as when the gelding has been driven aggressively previously it has performed poorly and had been stood down from racing due to poor performances. B. Hewitt added that it would be the intention to drive the gelding in similar manner circumstances permitting in future starts. After considering all the evidence the tendered and also the racing pattern of RYANS GANGSTER which showed that the gelding has been driven with cover recently and that when it has been successful leading was over the shorter distances and also when racing in lesser grade, Stewards noted the comments of Driver O. Frisby.
