ROLL THE SEVEN– When questioned in relation to her driving in the early stages driver A Turnbull explained that in accordance with the geldings established pattern, she drove forward in the early stages in an attempt to obtain the lead. She said that approaching the turn after the start she had established a lead over SAILOR GIRL and was confident that she would cross that runner. She said that shortly after this ROLL THE SEVEN became one-paced and could not accelerate sufficiently to cross. She stated that rounding the turn into the home straight on the first occasion, she observed SAILOR GIRL to be travelling comfortably and not being pressured to maintain the lead, therefore she again drove with vigour in an attempt to cross and lead, however after being unable to do so she restrained passing the winning post on the first occasion and raced behind SAILOR GIRL. Ms Turnbull conceded that the lead time was faster than she had envisaged and had ROLL THE SEVEN been more responsive approaching the entrance to the front straight she would have restrained sooner. Taking into account all the circumstances, including review of the gelding’s recent form, no action was taken.
