Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY PACE (2200 MS)
My Darling Dancer galloped briefly during the early part of the score up and a warning was issued against the barrier manners of the mare.
Shannon O’Sullivan, driver of Jacks Command was fined $100 under rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain her position behind the mobile barrier until the start was effected. Although acknowledging Ms O’Sullivan’s recent record, in not increasing the penalty Stewards took into account the racing manners of Jacks Command and that no tangible advantage had been obtained by this occurrence.
David Barbetti, driver of Kiwi Kalahari was cautioned for tightening the ground of Thelongroadnowhere (B Murphy) shortly after the start.
Crafty Old Fox pulled hard during the middle stages.
Thelongroadnowhere and Jacks Command had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the home straight.
RACE 2 – FLYING HORSE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE TROT (2200 MS)
You Really Got Me NZ commenced to give ground rapidly after leading into the back straight on the final occasion resulting in Whos Countn being inconvenienced when following. You Really Got Me NZ and Whos Countn then locked sulky wheels resulting in Whos Countn being severely checked and You Really Got Me NZ breaking gait. Chris Alford, driver of You Really Got Me NZ considered that the gelding may have been exhibiting a breathing issue. A veterinary examination of You Really Got Me NZ revealed the gelding to have atrial fibrillation and in accordance with rule 101C(2)(a), You Really Got Me NZ was stood down from racing for 14 days, will be required to perform a satisfactory ECG and then trial satisfactorily on 1 occasion.
Luke Dunne, driver of Whos Countn was reminded of his obligations to ensure there is sufficient room to progress into a clear run during this incident. In not taking further action Stewards took into account the rate in which You Really Got Me NZ had given ground.
Saint Calder trotted roughly rounding the final turn and lost some ground.
RACE 3 – BDTC150 ON TWITTER 3YO VICBRED MAIDEN TROT (2200 MS)
Constant hung in during the score up and again rounding the final turn.
Waikare Maxwell hung out whilst leading and most noticeably in the home straight. A warning was issued against the racing manners of that gelding.
RACE 4 – FLYING HORSE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE 3YO VICBRED PACE (1710 MS)
Top Gun Ted was slow to begin from barrier 1.
Top Gun Ted tired to be beaten approximately 60m and a warning was issued against the performance of the colt.
RACE 5 - INTERCLUB DROP IN CENTRE PACE (2200 MS)
Reign Maker pulled hard during the middle stages and was then held up for a clear run in the home straight.
Stewards refrained from pursuing action against driver Jason Lee (Keayang Kamikaze) in relation to the sectional time requirements after it was evident that Keayang Kamikaze had worked during the early stages to obtain the lead.
Modern Bliss pulled hard during the early stages when being restrained and after progressing to the position outside of the leader, Modern Bliss then pulled hard during the middle stages.
RACE 6 – EUREKA LEARNING NETWORK PACE (1710 MS)
Masake hung in rounding the first turn.
Rory Coverdale, driver of Regal Reggae (assisted by driver James Herbertson) explained that after progressing forward three wide to obtain the position outside of the leader approaching the winning post on the first occasion, considering the moderate early tempo and that her drive was inclined to over-race slightly she then elected to advance her position to race on level terms with the leader (Cocorocks) approaching the 800m. Ms Coverdale added that thereafter she allowed Regal Reggae to race sightly in advance of the Cocorocks down the back straight on the final occasion as she continued to increase the tempo, prior to Regal Reggae then finishing in 3rd place beaten approximately 15m. Stewards noted that this was Ms Coverdale’s 10th race drive and considering that Regal Reggae was still relatively competitive, advised that in future she may have been better served to attempt to rate her drive down the back straight, particularly when viewed comparatively with the sectional times recorded (3rd quarter - 27.7 seconds, 4th quarter – 29.2 seconds).
RACE 7 – BACCHUS MARSH PACING CUP (3RD HEAT) (2200 MS)
Carmy Dan underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
Carmy Dan paced roughly momentarily down the back straight on the final occasion and again in the home straight.
Bona Khan had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the home straight.
RACE 8 – CENTRAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR & SERVICING PACE (2200 MS)
The start of this race was momentarily delayed due to Albion Park greyhounds running behind schedule.
Idle Times pulled hard during the middle stages.
The Big End Oftown tired to be beaten approximately 54m and a warning was issued for the performance.
Damien Burns, driver of Idle Times was fined $200 under rule 156(2)(a) for applying the whip with more than a wrist only flicking action in the home straight.
RACE 9 – CHRISTMAS IN JULY BOOK NOW TROT (2200 MS)
Well Deserved galloped briefly in the early part of the score up and a warning was issued against the barrier manners of the gelding.
Thats My Armbro began badly and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Thats My Armbro galloped whilst trailing the field near the 1700m and 1100m and considering the recent record of the gelding, Thats My Armbro was stood down from racing until having completed one satisfactory trial.
Majestic Achiever NZ pulled hard when positioned outside of the leader before being retired from the event by driver Jason Ainsworth (Majestic Achiever NZ) near the 1000m. Jason Ainsworth, driver of Majestic Achiever NZ confirmed in his opinion the mare had choked down. A subsequent veterinary examination of Majestic Achiever NZ revealed no obvious abnormalities. Majestic Achiever NZ was stood down from racing until having trialled satisfactorily on one occasion.
La Bella Figura pulled hard whilst leading through the middle stages.
John Caldow, driver of Majestic Jewel was cautioned for allowing the mare to shift out slightly approaching the winning post.
RACE 10 – WWW.BALLARATTROTTINGCLUB.COM.AU TROT (2200 MS)
Tipsy Turvy was out of position at the start despite the efforts of its driver and a warning was issued against the barrier manners of the mare.
Alpha Male over-raced in the lead during the middle stages.
Itsallandover tired to be beaten approximately 79m and in view of the winning margin (13m) a warning was issued against the performance of the gelding.
