Driver Glenn Conroy (Aldebaran Gwen) was issues with a caution for loose reining when driving out over the concluding stages.

RACE 2 FLYING HORSE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE TROT (1710 MS)

Calders Day Out and Baarlinee galloped during the middle stages of the score up and were out of position at the start. Both runners will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start races.

Driver Luke Dunne (Calders Day Out) was queried regarding his tactics in particular his decision to improve three wide from the 1300m to race outside the leader after galloping and losing considerable ground at the start. Calders Day Out commenced to give ground from approximately the 400m to be beaten 49m in second last placing.  Mr. Dunne explained that connections had a high opinion of the mare and felt that Calders Day Out would be competitive despite the ground lost at the start. Mr Dunne added that he elected to place the mare in a forward position after the pace slackened during the first quarter however was required to work harder than desired as the pace quickened during the second quarter. Upon review of the available replays and considering the ground lost at the start, Mr. Dunne was reminded to insure he drives the mare within its capabilities in future and was issued with a caution for his lack of judgement on this occasion.

Drivers Tina Ridis (Barcardi Jess), Jason Ainsworth (From The West), Luke Dunne (Calders Day Out) and Glenn Conroy (Aldebaran Belle NZ) were questioned regarding an incident rounding the final turn, where Barcardi Jess was checked and galloped. After taking evidence from all driver’s and viewing the available replays it was established that Aldebaran Belle NZ improved off the peg line as Calders Day Out was giving ground to its outside. Calders Day Out then shifted out under pressure resulting in From The West being slightly inconvenienced and shifting out to Barcardi Jess resulting in slight contact and the mare galloping. Given all the circumstances and contributing racing manners of both Calders Day Out and From The West no action was taken other than to record the incident.

Hurrikane Franco continued to race erratically and shift in approaching the finish despite the efforts of its driver. A warning was issued against the gelding racing manners.

RACE 5 -TARNA VALLEY FARM PACE (1710 MS)

A false start was declared at the first attempt due to Four Star Saint veered outwards while in a gallop during the early stages of the score up resulting in trailing runner Gottahaveahobbie being unable to fulfill its barrier position. A further delay to the start resulted after Four Star Saint required gear alterations after breaking its near side rein bur which was removed prior to the restart. Four Star Saint was placed outside the draw in future mobile start races.

RACE 6 – ROYAL HOTEL SNAKE VALLEY 3YO PACE (1710 MS)

Tooby Gold hung in when improving to the inside of Betonbetty approaching the 200m and contacted a marker peg. Trailing runner Our Ultimate Layla also hung in and contacted marker pegs prior to entering the home straight.

You Really Got Me NZ began badly. Trailing runner Mielicki was inconvenienced shortly after the start. You Really Got Me NZ was placed outside the draw for future standing start races.

Approaching the 1300m You Really Got Me NZ galloped clear of interference. Considering the geldings recent record, a warning was issued.

Driver Emmett Brosnan (Homonym NZ) was queried regarding his tactics after electing to race on the peg line throughout. Homonym NZ was held up and unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. Mr Brosnan explained that after Homonym NZ was checked at the start, the mare did not travel well and required urging to regain contact with the field therefore settled with a trailing position on the pegline. Mr Brosnan further explained that he shifted wider in the back straight on the final occasion however a run appeared to present on the pegline as Aldebaran Jaytee moved wider momentarily. Mr Brosnan then committed back to the inside at the 500m as Homonym NZ felt under some pressure, and he removed the ear plugs from the mare. Mr Brosnan further explained that although Homonym NZ finished the race without a clear run, the mare was never travelling strongly and he was not confident she would have improved her position wider on the track. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Wagering analysis will be conducted on this race.

Pixiu hung out under pressure rounding the final turn after racing without cover throughout.

Quiet Storm improved strongly over the concluding stages after being restrained at the start and racing in a rearward position. Driver Annalise Scott and trainer Xavier O’Connor explained that due to the gelding’s inexperience and wide barrier draw, connections had decided not to ask the gelding to work forward early in the race. Ms Scott added that Quiet Storm did race roughly on entering the back straight on the first occasion and had raced greenly at various stages throughout and considered the gelding should derive some benefit from the experience.

Zero Doubt tired to be beaten 142m and was stood down due to a poor performance.

Sir Floyd tired to be beaten 71m and a warning was issued for a poor performance.

McArdom tired to be beaten 56m. No action was taken given the winning margin of 18m.

Driver Sean O’Sullivan (Gauci) was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional times requirement while leading during the second quarter which was run in 33.4 seconds, which is 1.4 seconds outside the requirement.

Areuohkay was held up and was unable to obtain a clear run rounding the final turn and during the early stages at the home straight.

Trainer Adam Stevens (Silver Domino) was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding which failed to improve over the concluding stages from a trailing position beaten 27.6m in second last placing. A post-race veterinary examinations of the gelding revealed a slower than normal recovery rate Mr. Stevens was at a lost to explain the performance however felt that the gelding may not have handled the changing weather conditions. Mr Stevens further advised that in reflection he was of the opinion the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit and would look to make the necessary gear changes prior to racing again. Stewards intend to follow up with Mr Stevens regarding the recovery of Silver Domino in the coming days.

Driver Robert Walters pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving. Leavig the back straight on the final occasion Mr Walters initiated a jostle when applying significant outward pressure to Dancin With Elvis (Jackie Barker) which resulted in Metro Man making contact to the near side sulky wheel of Ms Barkers drive and racing roughly. Taking into consideration the degree of carelessness, Mr Walters guilty plea and good driving record in relation to this rule, Mr Walters was issued with a fine of $200.
