Trainers with multiple horses engaged in any given race were questioned as to the intended driving tactics to be adopted.
RACE 1 – ACACIA CARAVAN PARK PACE (1790 MS)
Boldyou galloped during the latter stages of the score up resulting in interference to runners on the second line. A false start was declared. Boldyou was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races.
She Sparkles experienced a flat near side sulky tyre in the back straight on the first occasion resulting in driver Denbeigh Wade retiring the mare from the race at the 1200m.
Johnny Redcoat pulled hard while leading during the middle stages.
Crime Boss hung in under pressure rounding the final turn and contacted marker pegs prior to entering the home straight.
Regal Reggae was held up rounding the final turn before obtaining a clear run over the final 150m.
RACE 2 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MAIDEN PACE (1790 MS)
Jasperine galloped during the score up and was out of position at the start and took no part in the race while trailing the field. This mare will continue to be drawn wide in future mobile start races.
Tellmesumthingrl commenced to contact its own sulky wheels shortly after the start and raced to the lead during the early stages. Tellmesumthingrl continued to contact its own sulky wheels and raced fiercely before galloping at the 1100m resulting in all trailing runners being inconvenienced to varying degrees. Tellmesumthingrl galloped again at the 300m when racing near the rear of the field. Driver Tayla French undertook to make the necessary gear adjustments to avoid this occurring in the future. Tellmesumthingrl was stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.
Driver Daryl Crone (Lets Go Cresco) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) for his unapproved whip use after he crossed his reins and applied the whip with a free hand rounding the final turn. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines and Mr Crone’s recent driving record having offended under this rule within the previous 28 days. A $00 penalty was imposed.
Approaching the 250m Ceres Goldchip stumbled and fell to the track while racing in a one out position resulting in trailing runner Ideal Jo being severely inconvenienced and retired out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of Ceres Goldchip revealed the mare had suffered a catastrophic shoulder injury and the mare was humanely euthanised.
Driver Bailey McDonough was queried regarding the performance of Mytime after finishing in 6th position beaten 43m. Mr McDonough was at a loss to explain the performance however was of the opinion that Mytime may be better suited when not required to work hard in its races. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
RACE 3 – LOAD RESTRAINT - GREAT SPONSOR 3YO MAIDEN PACE (2195 MS)
Trainer Wayne Watson (Flowertop Mountain) was cautioned for failing to have his registration assessment certificate available for inspection of this filly.
The start of this race was delayed due to track preparations being delayed.
The start was further delayed after driver Josh Duggan (Goodtime Jessie) indicated to the starter during the score up that he had a gear malfunction.
Martin Magic pulled hard during the score up for the restart.
Ideal Glory, which showed gate speed to lead, commenced to give ground from the 600m and tired to be beaten 98m. Trailing runners Letsdancetilldawn, Flowertop Mountain and Top Gun Ted were all inconvenienced as the filly commenced to give ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Ideal Glory revealed the filly was displaying a slower than normal recovery. Trainer Matthew Craven was at a loss to explain the below expected performance on this occasion and stewards will follow up with Mr Craven in the following days regarding the filly’s recovery. Considering the performance Ideal Glory was placed on its last chance to race competitively.
Flowertop Mountain was held up and unable to be fully tested at any stage in the home straight.
Top Gun Ted was held up rounding the final turn prior to utilising the sprint lane in the home straight. It was noted that Top Gun Ted finished the race with a flat off side tyre.
SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT - 16 JUNE 2022
Matthew Craven, trainer of Ideal Glory advised subsequent to the poor performance at Ararat on June 8 2022, that the filly had recovered well. Mr.Craven stated Ideal Glory would have a light couple of weeks before a decision is made on the current preparation.
RACE 4 – DR SARAH GRAY - NEWTON EQUINE TROT (2195 MS)
A false start was declared at the first attempt when Kentucky Jim galloped during the middle stages of the score up resulting in interference to runners on the second line.
At the restart Kentucky Jim was out of position and will be placed out of the draw for future mobile start races.
Majestic Pride, which was out of position at the start, will continue right out of the draw in future mobile start races.
Kentucky Jim galloped clear of interference rounding the first turn.
Sierra Kea pulled hard while racing outside the leader throughout.
Majestic Pride raced fiercely during the middle stages. Approaching the 1400m Majestic Pride galloped and was directed wider on the track by driver Josh Duggan. After regaining its correct gait, Majestic Pride then raced three wide for the remainder of the race.
Kyvalley Sherrif raced roughly during the middle stages before tiring to be beaten in excess of 100m. Taking into consideration the geldings recent racing record, Kyvalley Sherrif was stood down for a period of 10 days and until the satisfactory completion of one trial for a poor performance.
The all clear for this race was delayed at the request of second placed driver Jackie Barker (Sierra Kea) to ensure the winner Victory Hill had not galloped when it became unbalanced under pressure over the concluding stages. Upon review it was evident that Victory Hill had not galloped and was restrained as it commenced to race roughly on two occasions. All clear was then given on the judge’s numbers.
Driver Jackie Barker (Sierra Kea) was fined $100 under Rule 156(3) for her unapproved whip use in that she applied the whip on more occasions than permissible over the final 200m.
Driver Declan Murphy (Cork) was questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance after being beaten 42m in 8th position. Mr Murphy was of the opinion that the gelding had not handled the tight track. A post-race veterinary examination of Cork failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
RACE 5 - PACING FOR PINK BIG SUCCESS PACE (2195 MS)
Bayside Victory galloped during the latter stages of the score up, was out of position at the start and was placed out of the draw in future mobile start races. Bayside Victory then finished in last place beaten 73m. Due to the ground lost at the start no action was taken.
Mister Uptown pulled hard during the early stages while racing near the rear of the field.
RACE 6 – ARARAT CANCER WARD DAY 21ST AUGUST, 2022 PACE (2195 MS)
Driver Bailey McDonough (Goodtime Mach) was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements while leading after the first half was completed in 65.9 seconds.
RACE 7 – THANK YOU ALL SPONSORS & VOLUNTEERS PACE (1790 MS)
Talent Agent NZ failed to circle prior to the start and a warning was issued against the gelding’s barrier manners.
Cyriliscious raced roughly shortly after the start. Cyriliscious continued to race roughly at various stages before galloping clear of interference at the 600m. Cyriliscious will be given one last chance to race truly.
RACE 8 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MARES SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP (5TH HEAT) (1790 MS)
Fullofit galloped clear of interference leaving the front straight on the first occasion and trailed the field thereafter. Fullofit will be given one last chance to race truly.
Driver Tayla French (Delightful Nikky) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(3) for her unapproved whip use after she applied the whip on more occasions than permissible over the final 200m. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the HRV Minimum Penalty Guidelines and Ms French’s recent driving record in relation to this rule having a second charge within the previous 28 days. Under the circumstances Ms French’s licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 29 June 2022 at the completion of a previous suspension.
RACE 9 – ALABAR VICBRED PLATINUM MARES SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP (5TH HEAT) (2195 MS)
Pre and post-race veterinary examinations were conducted on Irish Murphy under the HRV horse welfare policy due to this gelding obtaining the age of 12 years. Neither examination revealed any obvious abnormalities.

Horrie Otara galloped during the middle stages of the score up before regaining its correct gait and being in position at the start. Horrie Otara will be given one last chance in the mobile barrier draw.
