Driver David Barbetti (Hello I Tea) was questioned regarding his driving tactics and the performance of the gelding after withstanding a challenge from Jilliby Rippa during the early stages to lead. Hello I Tea then gave ground in the back straight on the final occasion to be beaten 71m. Mr Barbetti stated that Hello I Tea commenced quickly then shortly after the start he indicated his intention to relinquish the lead and restrained for cover from Jilliby Rippa however the gelding commenced to over race and Jilliby Rippa desisted with its challenge. Mr Barbetti added that Hello I Tea then settled and was able to run through a moderate first half of the last mile before giving ground in the back straight on the final occasion. Mr Barbetti added that the gelding was first up from a spell however had trailed well prior to the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Given the beaten margin, a warning was placed on Hello I Tea for a poor performance.

Khans Creed hung in under pressure while being driven out in the home straight on the final occasion.

RACE 4 – THANK YOU DOT & NEIL TURNER PACE (1790 MS)

Imawingate was held up for a clear run on the peg line rounding the final turn before improving in the sprint lane over the latter stages.

RACE 6 – VISIT ARARAT TROTTERS HANDICAP (2165 SS)

Sarahleonie Bow was re-handicapped to start on the outside of the 20m barrier following its win at Maryborough 1 July 2022 after acceptances for this race.

Sarahleonie Bow galloped as the start was affected and trailed the field thereafter. This mare was placed out of the draw for future mobile start races.

Dream Over galloped when challenged for the lead by Di Li rounding the first turn then proved difficult to restrain into its correct gait, galloping excessively for approximately 300m. Dream Over then trailed the field for the remainder of the race. A warning was issued against the gelding racing manners.

Both runners had not started for more than 12 months. These examinations cleared both runners of any obvious abnormalities.

The race start time was amended to begin at 3.39pm at the request of Sky Channel due to the Richmond greyhound races being abandoned.

Rock Phone hung in during the latter part of the score up prior to showing gate speed. Rock Phone then raced outside the leader throughout before giving ground over the latter stages to be beaten 49m.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Driver Bailey McDonough stated that the gelding was first up from a spell and appeared to not handle the tight track. Mr McDonough also added that the fast mile rate recorded while racing outside the leader had contributed to the performance.

Cyrilisious tired to be beaten 67m and a warning was issued for a poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was displaying a slower than normal recovery rate and recommended a stand down period of 6 days.

Driver Glen Craven (Itzamajorsuprise) was fined $100 under rule 156(3) for his unapproved whip used after applying the whip to his drive on more occasions than permissible over the final 200m.

Midnight Music tired to be beaten in excess of 150m and was stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial for a poor performance.

Driver Ryan Sanderson (Rumbles Stride NZ) was cautioned for careless driving in that approaching the 250m, Rumbles Stride NZ contacted the right side sulky wheel of The Huntress resulting in the filly receiving a flat tyre. In not taking more severe action stewards were mindful of the racing manners of both Rumbles Stride NZ, which hung in and didn’t respond as desired as Mr Sanderson attempted to direct that runner wider on the track. Stewards also took into consideration the limited experience of the horses only being 2 year old and that The Huntress had commencing to give ground rapidly at that stage.

Driver Bailey McDonough (The Huntress) was queried regarding his tactics on this filly when after racing without cover for the majority of the race he applied pressure to the leader Miss Bay King Cole from the 600m and attempted to cross to the lead. The Huntress was unsuccessful in that challenge before giving some ground over the latter stages to finish in 5th placing beaten approximately 31m. Mr McDonough explained that he observed the leader race roughly and felt that this was a good opportunity to improve to the lead however Miss Bay King Cole was able to rebalance and maintain its position. Mr McDonough’s comments were supported on the available replays and his explanation was noted.
