Supplementary Report:
Trainer Emma Stewart reported that Beyond Delight had recovered well following its disappointing performance at Albion Park on 16 July 2022. A veterinary examination carried out on Monday 18 July included an ECG report which detected no significant findings the heart rhythm was normal. Miss Stewart reported that other than the elevated heart rate post-race on 16 July, no other abnormalities were observed.
Trainer Jason Grimson was fined $200 under AHR rule 190B(4) for failing to produce a logbook when requested by integrity investigation team officers.
Race day stable inspections were carried out on selected trainers with horses engaged in tonight’s race meeting by the Investigative Integrity Team.
Race 1 - SUNSHINE STARS YEARLING SALE BAND 5 PACE 2138M
Beyond Delight (Mark Pitt) hung in noticeably from the 300 metres and in the run to the finish. Connections were advised to take the necessary corrective measures.
Ronaldo NZ (Shane Graham) broke gait at the 1300 metres and lost considerable ground. Connections advised the gelding was contacting its own sulky wheels when the pace was only moderate. After considering a good record in this regard connections were advised Ronaldo NZ will be placed on its last chance to race truly.
Race 2 - 2022 THE JC MCMULLEN (G3) 1660M
So Am I (Leonard Cain) inclined to race roughly leaving the back straight and entering the first turn after the start. A warning was issued.
Bettor Isolate (Matthew Craven) out of position when the start was affected.
Saginaw NZ (Brendan Barnes) out of position when the start was affected. The gelding will continue to be drawn to the outside in future mobile starts.
General
Matthew Craven (Bettor Isolate) was fined $100 under AHR rule 162 (1) (h) for failing to come up into position at the start.
Race 3 - 2022 DESIGNLINE QUEEN OF HEARTS PACE (LISTED) 1660M
Jeradas Delight (Brendan Barnes) caught racing three wide in the early stages and was unsuccessful in obtaining a forward position which resulted in the mare being restrained to the rear of the field.
Rubies For Tash (Nathan Dawson) shifted in and contacted a marker peg on the final turn.
Gunna Needamargarita NZ (Taleah McMullen) out of position when the start was affected.
General
Taleah McMullen (Gunna Needamargarita)was fined $100 under AHR rule 162 (1) (h) for failing to come up into position at the start.
Race 4 - 2022 PRYDE'S EASIFEED QUEENSLAND TROTTERS CUP (G1) 2138M
Empire Bay (Luke McCarthy) hung out after the start. Broke gait free of interference leaving the 800 metres and lost valuable ground. After considering previous offences in this regard Empire Bay was stood down from racing for a period of two weeks and will be required to complete two satisfactory trials.
Global Flight NZ (Narissa McMullen) Stewards directed a veterinary inspection be carried out on the gelding prior to being presented for racing. The veterinary surgeon passed the gelding fit to take its place in the field.
Watts Up Majestic (Shane Graham) caught three wide for the first 600 metres of the race and was unsuccessful in obtaining a forward position which resulted in the gelding being restrained to the rear of the field.
Wee Man Trouble NZ (Luke Whittaker) inclined to hang out at various stages of the race.
Lotamuscle NZ (Greg Sugars) inconvenienced at the 800 metres when Empire Bay galloped. Shifted inside marker pegs on entrance to the sprint lane and during the sprint lane.
General
Greg Sugars (Lotamuscle NZ) was fined $200 under AHR rule and 163 (1) (c) (i) for carelessly contacting marker pegs in the run to the finish.
Race 5 - 2022 TAB QUEENSLAND OAKS (G1) 2138M
Alwaysbme (Mathew Neilson) contacted marker pegs leaving the 400 metres when racing tight to the inside of The Iron Lady NZ which was laying in when tiring.
General
The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes due to a shoeing adjustment to Soho Historia. A subsequent veterinary examination passed the filly to take its place in the field.
Race 6 - 2022 TAB QUEENSLAND DERBY (G1) 2680M
My Ultimate Johnny NZ (Shane Graham) compounded badly in the concluding stages and finished a distant last. It was established that the gelding had choked down during the race. Trainer Jarrod Alchin advised Stewards the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell. My Ultimate Johnny NZ will be required to complete a satisfactory trial before racing again.
General
Luke McCarthy (Cantfindabettorman) was fined $400 under AHR rule 156 (2) for engaging the elbow and shoulder when applying the whip in the concluding stages.
Race 7 - GOLD COAST TURF CLUB BAND 4 / BAND 2 PACE 2680M
Aphorism (Mark Pitt) it was noted the off side blind became detached shortly after the start which may have placed the gelding some disadvantage.
L L Cool J NZ (Brad Hewitt) held up for clear running in the concluding stages.
General
Taleah McMullen (Crime Writer) was fined $200 under AHR rule 156 (2) for applying the whip with elbow and shoulder in the run to the finish.
Race 8 - 2022 TAB THE BLACKS A FAKE QUEENSLAND CHAMPIONSHIP (G1 – GRAND CIRCUIT) 2680M
Spirit Of St Louis NZ (Jack Callaghan) shifted out continually in the run to the finish when leading.
Majestic Cruiser (Cameron Hart) locked sulky wheels with Turn It Up on entrance to the home straight.
Turn It Up (Shane Graham) locked sulky wheels with Majestic Cruiser in the home straight when attempting to shift to the outside of Spirit Of Saint Louis NZ
Zeuss Bromac NZ (Gavin Fitzpatrick) inclined to hang in under pressure and made contact with Rocky Marty which was racing to the inside resulting in Sue’s Bromac NZ being checked and driver Gavin Fitzpatrick being momentarily unseated in the sulky.
Rockin Marty (Brad Hewitt) shifted out abruptly in the run to the finish and made heavy contact with Zeuss Bromac NZ which was racing to its outside resulting in Rockin Marty becoming unbalanced and galloping.
Blacksadance (Pete McMullen) raced three wide in the early stages before being positioned outside the leader and unsuccessfully challenged for the lead at the 2200 metres. Raced keenly thereafter and tired in the concluding stages.
General
In the run to the finish Rockin Marty (Brad Hewitt) shifted out abruptly when being eased wider and made heavy contact to Zeuss Bromac NZ (Gavin Fitzpatrick) which was racing to its outside and was inclined to hang in under pressure. As a result, both horses were checked and Gavin Fitzpatrick was momentarily unseated in the sulky. Stewards could place no particular blame on horse or driver in this matter and it was noted as a racing incident.
Jack Callaghan (Spirit Of Saint Louis NZ) was fined $300 under AHR rule 162(1)(www)(b) for shifting ground in the run to the finish which hindered Turn It Up which was attempting to improve to its outside.
Race 9 - BETAVET QUALIFYING PACE 1660M
One Big Shew (Rickie Alchin) contacted a marker peg on entrance to the sprint lane.
Young Conqueror NZ (Nathan Dawson) bled both nostrils. The gelding will be barred from racing under AHR rule 101 for a period of three months. At the conclusion of this embargo connections must provide a veterinary clearance and Young Conqueror NZ will be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.
Cala Jane (Doug Hewitt) momentarily locked sulky wheels with Scotch En Ice in the home straight when attempting to shift wider on the track to gain clear running.
Scotch En Ice (Matt Elkins) checked and locked wheels with Cala Jane at the entrance of the home straight.
General
Doug Hewitt (Cala Jane) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving under AHR rule 168 (1) (a) for driving in the careless manner for when shifting ground in the home straight causing Cala Jane to lock sulky wheels with Scotch En Ice resulting in that gelding being checked momentarily. A fine of $200 was imposed and In assessing the matter of penalty, Stewards took into account Doug Hewitt’s good driving record.
Ricky Alchin (One Big Shew) was fined $100 under AHR rule 163 (1) (c) (i) for carelessly contacting a marker peg on entrance to the sprint lane.
Race 10 - SUNSHINE STARS YEARLING SALE 2YO PACE 1660M
For Real Life (Trent Dawson) inclined to hang in when racing outside the leader at various stages of the race.
