Driver J Locke was questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of the gelding, he stated he had been instructed to attempt to lead and the stable were confident of a forward showing if they were able to do so. He added that rounding the first turn the gelding commenced to hit its sulky wheel with its hind leg and commenced to over-race as a result. He further added that he felt the leader, CARIBBEAN PRIDE, was looking to back the pace off getting towards the 1600 metres so he attempted to cross it but was unable to do so. J Locke added the gelding contacted its sulky wheel again rounding the turns and over-raced somewhat until near the 600 metres. Trainer M Thompson was also queried regarding the performance, he stated he was confident of a forward showing today after the gelding had trialled well at Bendigo on the 31st of October and Shepparton on the 8th of November leading into today’s run. He added he was initially a little disappointed with the performance but with the gelding being unable to lead on the smaller track and the sectionals it ran while outside the leader he was satisfied with it.

COULDNT RECOMMEND– Pre-race swab sampled. Driver J Painting was questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of the filly, he stated that while the filly won its previous race, that race was run very much to suit, in that she had cover behind the leader while they were running a very quick tempo and was able to get out with about 300 metres to go to sprint home. He added that today the filly was stuck facing the breeze during the early stages, which she is not suited to. He further added for her to race at her best she needs to be able to obtain a position with cover on the marker pegs and be saved for a final sprint, or in races of easier class he believes she can race competitively if she can find the lead.

ISLAND ROCKNROLL– Post-race swab sampled.
