Kadar caused an upset win when scoring in the Four And Five Year Old Classic in Launceston on Sunday night.

Sent out as a $20 chance, the Roll With Joe entire was restrained from a wide draw during a fast early tempo before working into the race three-wide from 700m.

“I was hoping to get a cart up, but we just had to do it ourselves down the back, and he got through the line good,” explained trainer-driver Todd Rattray post race.

It was a thrilling finish with only 4.4m covering the first six placegetters, with Kadar recording a half-neck win over Major Lester, with race favourite Montana Storm sticking on well late for third.

The win was the 11th career win for Kadar, who is now a National Rating 85, with the trainer considering sending the pacer to his brother James in Sydney.

“He is finally starting to go as he works at home.

“He is up in grade now, so we will have to pick his races a bit … he isn’t a good stand horse,” Rattray added.

Concession reinsman Charlie Castles drove a treble, with his last winner Kens Chips being his 50th career winner.

Prepared by Devonport trainer Bevan Thomas, the mare did plenty of work to find the lead at the mile mark and clung on to score by a short-half-head.

“She is consistent and is always there about,” said the winning driver.

Castles’ other two winners were for in-form Spreyton trainer Leigh Rand including Aussie Rock, who recorded her seventh career win in the third race.

“She did a bit of work to find the top in a 28.5 (seconds) quarter and still had a good kick on the bend,” Castles explained.

Castles was delighted with the win of Gethomeroy, who resumed with a 10m victory.

Settling back in the field, it was going to be hard for the three-year-old to get into the race after some slow early sections before circling his rivals from the 600m.

“He was impressive, I know the time was slow, but he did it very convincingly,” Castles said.

The driver was unsure if connections are looking at the newly created Spring 3YO Championship, which has heats later this month.

Castles has now out driven his five-point claim in recent weeks and will now claim three national rating points.
