SA TROTS - Quick successful visit for Sugars

SOUTH Australian-bred horsewoman Kylie Sugars enjoyed the perfect homecoming during the weekend.

Making a rare appearance at her former home track - Globe Derby - Sugars was triumphant with in-form trotter Euryphaessa, which she bred and part-owns.

Sugars only took the opportunity to partner Euryphaessa on Saturday night as regular driver David Smith is still recovering from injuries sustained from a fall in Mildura a fortnight ago.

"With David unable to drive because of injury I thought I'd take the opportunity to head over to drive her," Sugars said.

"It was a quick stop to drive her while catching up with friends and family over a lunch and then at the races that night.

"To top it all off with a win is a real bonus."

In what was her first drive at the venue for more than a decade, Sugars broke an 18-year drought from the Adelaide's winners' circle!

Sugars' previous 'hometown' victory was on May 24, 2004 when triumphant with Lite Monet.

As for Sugars' cameo appearance, it didn't quite go to plan, with Euryphaessa breaking stride during the score-up.

Caught three-wide once settled, Euryphaessa was sent forward to find the lead during the middle states as Muscletonian occupied the 'death seat'.

Fending off the initial challenge turning for home, the daughter of Majestic Son staved off a late charge from Our Spitfire to score by a half-head.

Muscletonian was 10 metres away third in 2:02.6 over 2230 metres.
